This role is critical in supporting the development of the charity’s learning and development strategy and embedding a knowledge culture at Turn2us by creating and delivering learning programmes and interventions.

This is a fantastic opportunity, as a brand new role, to build a robust training and learning framework to support our staff as by developing equitable and inclusive training to help embed a culture where learning is embedded with equity and inclusion in everything we do.

Reporting to the Head of Human Resources, you will tailor training design and content to meet the specific needs of the business, create engaging content that caters to diverse learning preferences, across groups of varying sizes / seniority levels. You will also aid in the delivery of inductions, support the review of annual appraisal and development planning and conduct regular evaluations to enhance training effectiveness, utilising data to identify areas for improvement where needed.

You will bring experience of training needs analysis and general HR practice, along with experience in developing practical training initiatives which have had a demonstrable effect on both organisational performance and culture. You’ll need strong analytical skills to be able to translate data and trends into strategy and actionable plans.  

We offer flexible working patterns, both in terms of hours and remote working. Please note that all employees are required to work from the office a minimum of 4 days a month on a weekly basis.

Some roles may be required to be in the office more often than others and this will be agreed with the hiring manager upon starting at Turn2us.

Job Title: Learning & Development Manager

Department: Human Resources - People, Culture & Governance Directorate

Reports to: Head of Human Resources

Purpose of the Role:           

To develop the charity’s learning and development strategy and embed a knowledge culture at Turn2us by creating and delivering learning programmes and interventions.

Duties:

1. Skills Audit:

  • Work with all teams across Turn2us to identify training needs bi-annually within their teams and support the sourcing and delivery of appropriate training.

  • Design learning and development programmes on the back of the skills audit to support the greatest collective need that support staff to deliver the Turn2us strategy. 

  • Build an evaluation framework to measure training effectiveness and determine future learning programmes.

2. Training design:

  • Identify cross-organisational training initiatives and lead on the embedding of learning ensuring relevant content is included tor mandatory learning items.

  • Work with the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging (EDIB) Committee and Inclusion team to identify and/or develop suitable courses relating to EDIB to ensure staff knowledge and awareness of EDIB continues to develop.

  • Work with HR team to create a suite of training to equip the charity’s people managers in of best and merging practice, understanding of EDIB and its principles and ensuring compliance around employment legislation – including recruitment and selection; handling grievances; managing flexible working requests and reasonable adjustments.

  • Work with the recruitment team to develop and integrate on-boarding learning as part of inductions for new staff, including probationary periods; compliance and wellbeing.

  • Co-ordinate the delivery of the learning and development programmes with a mix of third party and in house delivery. Source high-quality providers to deliver training, both technical and soft skills, and negotiate charity rates from suppliers. 

3. Tracking of Staff Development & Learning:

  • Update the Turn2us learning and development policy to ensure clear guidelines about staff training and development.

  • Create and maintain a training log to track staff development.

  • Maintain all the administration relating to internal and external training roll outs.

  • Develop metrics/reporting tools to evaluate staff learning, development and feedback.

  • Lead on the creation of a Turn2us “library” of learning and development materials from all available sources.

  • Work with the Head of Human Resources to build a competency framework for all roles by job band.

4. Project Delivery:

  • Work with HR team to ensure staff development and learnings are included in annual employee related processes including employees survey, appraisal process (especially PDP).

  • Work with Head of HR and Director People, Culture & Governance to support roll out of Culture Project findings and recommendations.

5. General:

  • Act as first point of call on all L&D queries.

  • Formulate and manage annual training budgets that deliver excellent value for money.

  • Keep up to date on specialist knowledge around best practice in development and learning.

  • Recommend changes to systems and procedures to improve the efficiency of the HR department and organisation. 

It is critical that the staff working in HR will have access to material, which is confidential, staff-in-confidence, or sensitive in some way.  It is a condition of their contract of employment that they use great discretion at all times and ensure that no confidential or staff-in-confidence material is leaked from the department to unauthorised members of staff.

These are the normal duties, which the Charity requires from the position. However, it is necessary for all staff to be flexible and all employees will be required from time to time to perform other duties as may be required by the Charity for the efficient running of the charity.  This Job Description is non-contractual. It will be reviewed from time to time and may be subject to change.

Experience:

  • Experience in facilitating training sessions preferred but not essential.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of EDIB best practice in L&D.
