Job Description
Project Description:
Space innovation and technology are now a part of our everyday lives, from using sat-nav on a car journey to checking what the weather will be like tomorrow. Overcoming the challenges of working in space has led to many technological and scientific advances in areas including health and medicine, transportation, public safety, consumer goods, energy and environment, information technology, and industrial productivity.
Many space-related organisations in Hampshire, Surrey and the Isle of Wight offer products, services or expertise that could benefit non-space businesses in a diverse range of sectors, from financial services to agriculture, logistics to marine and maritime. The challenge is:
· Understanding the needs of these non-space markets
· Identifying space-related products and services relevant to them
· Identifying specific non-space companies/sectors to target
· Creating a strategy for marketing space-related products and services to non-space businesses, either generally or within a specific sector(s)
The Regional space cluster, Space South Central, seeks to appoint a Marketing and Communications SPINtern through the UKSA-funded SPIN programme. The placement will provide hands-on experience of researching, planning and creating, a marketing strategy. Supported by the Space South Central team, the successful applicant will play a key role in shaping this project, including:
· Market research to identify target markets and key space-related products, services and providers
· Interviewing people from space-related and non-space businesses
· Reporting on their findings
· Working with the marketing team to use the research to create a marketing strategy to promote the benefits of space-based products and services to non-space businesses
The intern will be assigned to the Space South Central core team, based within the University of Portsmouth, to assist the team and other organisations including the Satellite Applications Catapult and the UK Space Agency.
