Job Description

Summary

We are the public body that looks after England’s historic environment. We champion historic places, helping people understand, value and care for them.

We are seeking a Levelling Up Places Co-ordinator to join the team in London (and South East).

From April 2023 to March 2025, seven Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) cultural agencies are joining forces to provide support to councils and communities delivering culture led regeneration projects throughout England. Using new funding from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, additional posts are being created to support Levelling Up through investment in culture.

This brings together the support of Arts Council England, Historic England, Sport England, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, The National Lottery Community Fund, Visit England and the British Film Institute through five regional liaison committees. A team of co-ordinators and advisors will work with funded councils and organisations to signpost existing guidance, to develop packages of practical guidance and to offer advice on the alignment of future cultural investment with other funding opportunities.

We are looking for the successful candidate to start early 2024.

What you will be doing

We need you to join a team of regional Co-ordinators you will build and maintain relationships with key Levelling Up Fund clients, identifying priorities and developing partnership, promoting the programme, analysing resource needs and opportunities to provide help and information in liaison with the five Area Town Groups (ATGs). Through influence and advocacy, negotiate packages that draw together the specialist advice and resources of DCMS Arm’s Length Bodies (ALBs) to aid Levelling Up Fund recipients/clients. Monitoring the delivery of advice and customer satisfaction, and ensuring that delivery meets expectations. You will ensure that funding objectives are achieved, and have ownership for accounting and reporting back to funders.

You will work with the ATG and partner organisations in providing advice on strategic cultural investment priorities for places, helping strategic planning in partnership with the ATGs, bringing together DCMS ALBs to maximise the effectiveness of their support in building a consensus for investment priorities for future funding opportunities.

You will provide a secretariat function to one of the ATGs, arranging and noting their meetings, working in partnership with the chair. As part of the regional co-ordination team, in addition to London and South East, you will work flexibly across the country to ensure delivery of the Levelling Up Places service, including working with client authorities outside your region.

What we are looking for

  • Proven project management and administration skills

  • Stakeholder management

  • Extensive experience in team working and reporting on and managing workloads.

  • Good communication skills at all levels

  • A good awareness of the policy areas covered by the DCMS ALBs

  • Negotiation, influencing and problem-solving skills.

  • You will have skills and experience in setting agendas, minute taking and managing online meetings using MS Teams and Zoom and be competent in presenting information using common office software packages (such as MS word, excel and PowerPoint)

  • Ability to absorb, analyse and present complex information and to develop knowledge across several cultural policy areas.

We are an equal opportunity employer which values diversity and inclusion. If you have a disability or neurodiversity, we would be happy to discuss reasonable adjustments to the job with you. Having just won the Gold Award from MIND, we also recognise the importance of a healthy work-life balance.

We are an inclusive employer and believe that flexible working options are for everyone. We want to make sure our working arrangements don’t prevent anyone from joining us because of their personal circumstances. We also want to provide you with the best balance in your home and work life that we can.

We are open to considering options including job sharing, part-time working, compressed hours working and different working locations, including hybrid working. Please visit our jobs pages or contact us to find out more.
