Job Description

UK Youth has a fantastic opportunity for a passionate and enthusiastic Senior Instructor to join our Outdoor Learning team.

What is the role

As a Senior outdoor learning instructor, you will be part of our delivery team with responsibility for delivering our activities along with leading the team, supervising department resources and activity areas, mentoring and developing junior staff, supporting the day-to-day running of the department, and diligently meeting Health & Safety legislation and departmental SOP’s.

School residentials form a core part of our term time delivery but across the year we work with a wide variety of groups and adapt our delivery to support their specific needs. Part of your role will be in developing these programmes along with ensuring training is in place for the delivery team to enable them to offer high quality sessions which meet the needs of the groups.

You will also play a pivotal role in the success of our apprenticeship programme running your own cohort. This involves working with the rest of the team along with our apprenticeship provider to support the young people as they work their way through the scheme and become new instructors.

Who we are looking for

Essential to hold a valid first aid certificate and the following professional qualifications:

- Archery GB instructor

- BC Coach Award or minimum BC Paddle sport Instructor

At least one of the following off ground qualifications:

o   RCI Assessed

o   CWI Assessed (Abseil desirable)

o   ERCA Traditional Instructor + ERCA Generic Rescuer

And one of the following:

o   A nationally recognised walking/navigation qualification

o   A nationally recognised Mountain Biking qualification

o   A recognised environmental qualification

- Have previous experience of working in an outdoor centre for a minimum of 24 months

- Experience of delivering ambitious standards of customer care

- A general knowledge of Health and Safety relating to an outdoor learning environment

- A basic understanding of safeguarding and data protection within the context of an Outdoor Learning setting

Salary: £25,033 p/a

Hours: 37.5 hours a week average

Onsite single room accommodation is also available in a shared lodge at £35pw
