ABOUT THE TEAM

The Ambassador Relations team works within the Communication Department and Public Engagement Directorate. We exist to empower and develop a strong and diverse stable of Ambassadors and High Profile Supporters to champion children’s rights and influence the public and those with power in the UK to create change for children.

Guided by the UNCRC, we and our team of Ambassadors and High Profile Supporters are brave, smart, honest, hopeful advocates and communicators who amplify the voices of children and young people whilst raising funds for our programmes.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Ambassador Relations Manager works closely with the Head of Ambassador Relations, two other Senior Managers, one Manager and one team Executive, as well as our global UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador team. Senior Ambassador Relations Managers are strategic relationship and project managers who develop and nurture UNICEF UK’s Ambassadors and High Profile Supporters to support fundraising activities, elevate the organisation’s voice in the media, mobilise the public to act on child rights and decision-making target audiences to deliver on key campaigns and organisational priorities. The team works closely with all teams within UNICEF UK including our Media, Brand Marketing, Advocacy, Corporate and Philanthropy teams.

This role will co-lead and drive cross-organisational priority projects including a number of high-level and influential external stakeholders who strategically advice and help shape new development opportunities for UNICEF UK such as in support of our contribution to emergencies thematic funding and championing key UK and global advocacy campaigns.

Other responsibilities include leading on Ambassador Relations strategies servicing different remits and cross-committee groups with Ambassador led support - overseeing complex projects, business proposals and budgets, visits to UNICEF’s UK based and / or field programmes, as well as key contacting a number of dedicated Ambassadors, High Profile Supporters and Prospects to maintain impactful long-term relationships, and prospecting new Supporters.

What we will expect you to achieve

  • Create, develop and nurture long-term, high-level relationships and strategic plans for a number of UNICEF UK’s Ambassadors and High Profile Supporters and their teams, to support our organisational priorities and tackle child rights issues.

  • Represent Ambassador Relations in cross organisational working groups, embedding Ambassadors’ plans strategically into UNICEF’s priority areas of work.

  • Lead for Ambassador Relations across other teams such as Philanthropy, UK Programmes and Advocacy – building and sharing knowledge internally.

  • Design, develop and deliver effective Ambassador Relations and when relevant, wider Communications strategies for specific campaigns and major cross-organisational projects.

  • Lead and coordinate our priority collaborative projects alongside UNICEF Global offices as appropriate.

  • Lead and develop innovative projects and fundraising campaigns through our networks of influential stakeholders, delivering and creating new opportunities for UNICEF UK within the music and entertainment sectors.

  • Collaborate with key teams across the organisation and UNICEF global to ensure that requests for UNICEF UK Ambassadors are prioritised and maximised towards our work for children.

  • Lead on planning and delivering Ambassador led UK visits and overseas trips.

  • Support and contribute to prospecting for new high-profile supporters, with UNICEF UK’s Diversity and Inclusion policies as a priority.

  • Play an active role in the Ambassador Relations team with line management responsibilities as appropriate.

Relevant experience

  • Evidence of experience developing and nurturing high-profile and long-term strategic relationships, ideally in the entertainment sector or similar, translating organisational objectives into impactful Ambassador fronted campaigns and other activities.

  • Evidence of providing strategic direction to line reports, delegating work effectively and encouraging people to make decisions.

  • Evidence of experience of project managing complex projects and leading a group of external stakeholders compellingly motivating them to further support shared goals.

  • A clear understanding and commitment to promoting anti-racism through personal or professional practice.

  • Has led high-profile visits and trips in the UK, ideally with some of experience internationally as well.

  • An understanding of the UK media landscape and working with media teams to help deliver media objectives to strengthen campaign communications.

Specific knowledge and skills

  • Knowledge of, and experience of developing strategic relationships with people of influence within a complex organisational framework, anticipating challenges.

  • Understanding of UK fundraising and campaigning landscape as well as overall management of talent led deliverables; managing requests from multiple teams towards delivering compelling media, fundraising and advocacy campaigns.

  • Some experience and understanding of the UK music industry would be a benefit.

  • A sound understanding of Microsoft Office Suite tools.
