Job Description:
This internship will extend CAA’s work to better understand risks posed by orbital operations by supporting Hazard Identification (i.e. what could go wrong?) activities and create a visual representation of safety and sustainability risk and associated controls. This will improve our regulatory decision making.
The successful applicant will extend CAA’s work on hazards associated with orbital operations by information gathered through open sources as well as information supplied during licensing and monitoring activities.
Our intern will apply system and process safety tools (e.g. FMECA, Bow-Ties) to better represent hazard data to gain knowledge to support licensing and monitoring activities.
Through the course of this internship, candidates will
Understand how safety and sustainability risks posed by orbital operations affect orbital safety and sustainability.
Gain exposure to system safety and process safety assessment, tools and methodologies. (e.g. FMECA, Bow-Ties).
Build a greater understanding on how spacecraft design and operations are managed in association with the ALARP principle.
Understand how risks are managed from a regulatory perspective.
Develop Presentation and interpersonal skills by leading/taking part in workshops.
The successful applicant should have the following qualities and abilities:
Basic requirements:
Engineering Degree with Aerospace/Systems Engineering background
Desirable requirements:
Knowledge of spacecraft design and operations
Awareness of space environment and risks to orbital operations
Risk assessment methodologies
Process details:
8 weeks minimum (12 weeks maximum) fixed term contract to be agreed with successful candidate
5-7 days holiday to be taken during the placement
