Job Description

The Role

We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic and confident person to join the organisation as our Chief Executive Officer. As CEO, you will be responsible for leading London Sport in our mission to make London the Most Active City.

You will work closely with our Board Chair, Trustees and the Senior Leadership Team as we tackle the inequalities of opportunity that face many Londoners in becoming active. You will set organisational direction and culture, strive for continuous improvement and lead a passionate and committed team.

What you’ll do:

  • Overall responsibility for achieving the published goals, commitments to funders and business & people metrics for London Sport.

  • Be responsible for the London Sport strategy and leading the organisation to deliver it.

  • Work collaboratively with the Boards of London Sport and London Sport Trading, ensuring clear and effective communication of progress against agreed goals and an open and collaborative approach to the setting of future strategies.

  • Lead organisational change and continuous improvement to ensure London Sport has the right skills, capability, motivation and shape to deliver its objectives.

  • Manage funder relationships; delivery against agreed targets and objectives, proactive relationship building with Sport England and other funders.

  • Drive the development of commercial relationships and those with new funders supporting London Sport’s work and income diversification goals.

  • Lead on key senior stakeholder relationships and decision-makers important to London Sport’s work, and ensure that effective stakeholder engagement underpins all the work we do.

  • Act as an effective public figurehead for the organisation, advocating for London Sports work, building reputation, profile and influence.

  • Lead London Sports commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion (leading a “People First” culture), ensuring the organisation mirrors more closely the profile of London and effectively tackles inequality and equity of opportunity in leading active lives.

  • Strong commitment and passion for physical activity as a lever for social change.

  • Strong strategy, planning, organisation skills and financial literacy.

  • Understanding of how to work effectively with a Board, gained from either exec or non-exec experience.

  • Experience of working with and managing stakeholders in the Charity, Not for Profit and Local Government sectors.

  • Experience of system leadership and skilled in building and managing senior stakeholder relationships.

  • Innovative thinker who demonstrates thought leadership to shape and influence the thinking of external partners, opinion formers and key decision makers

  • Experience of working with national Government funding.

  • Understanding of leading a Not for Profit whilst also diversifying income.
