Job Description

Climate Outreach is seeking a Content and Communications Manager to join the team on a permanent, full time contract.

What we do

Climate change affects us all, and involves us all. But all too often conversations about climate exclude and alienate people. We know people care about tackling climate change. And we know we need to act fast. Season after season of wild weather around the world leaves us in no doubt that climate change is happening here and now.

At Climate Outreach we know people become the solution to the climate crisis when they’re invited into the conversation.

We conduct original research to better understand what people from different places and backgrounds think and feel about climate. We work with people and organisations to help create the best stories. We help them navigate difficult climate conversations and unlock more ambitious climate action. And we work with governments and policy makers in the UK and globally to show them the importance of engaging people in climate policy making and policy roll out.

There has never been a more urgent time for our work. In an era of economic strain, where many people’s daily lives are getting harder, the risk of polarisation, political backsliding, and lost momentum is real. The UK’s long standing cross-party consensus on climate is under threat. Without the right narrative, we risk division and delay at the very moment we need unity and ambition.

We know the story we need: one of hope, opportunity, and progress. But this story won’t write itself—we must act now to shape the language, narratives, and messengers that will sustain ambitious climate action.

How we work

We are a small team who prize working together and learning from each other. We each bring our own expertise and experiences to our work, which we all share and value. We each hold our areas of work, but we also all lean in to team objectives and tasks to deliver crucial work. We work flexibly in ways that work for us, with the understanding that there are times of more intensive work than others.

Role purpose and responsibilities

The Content and Communications Manager will play a central role in making Climate Outreach’s content and communications best in class. You will be able to write for a range of channels and audiences with a particular focus on drafting excellent digital copy to maximise the reach and impact of our work with target audiences. You will work closely with our Climate Visuals Manager to seek new opportunities for promoting our innovative climate photography library. You will be able to help us respond quickly to external events, and seek opportunities to share our research and content at key times.

Through building on your content creation skills, this role will present an opportunity to try out innovative communication ideas, using audience insights to adjust your approaches for a variety of audiences. You will be able to work with strategic comms insights and use this as a grounding for great content. You will also be able to work quickly and independently to an agreed brief and tight deadlines.

  • You are able and willing to work with people from different backgrounds

  • You have strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to balance proactive and reactive communication priorities

  • You are willing to learn and work with technological systems and solutions

  • You are comfortable in managing stakeholder relationships
