Job Description

The Role

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic person to join the London Sport team and lead our approach in shaping London’s urban environment to increase physical activity and achieve wider social outcomes.

This transformational role will focus on the needs of our local communities to influence, enable and support our partners to make informed decisions around design, development and investment in facilities, spaces and infrastructure. You will lead on London Sport’s connections and leadership in city’s urban environment.

What you’ll do:

  • You will ensure an active environment plays a central strategic role in meeting wider social outcomes. You will ensure the agenda is strategically aligned by developing and maintaining effective relationships with key strategic partners including the GLA/Mayor’s office, Transport for London and local authorities.

  • Support and shape the strategic thinking of key local partners on the review, planning and delivery of facility investment and leisure services, ensuring a strong link with their vision and outcomes.

  • Facilitate the development of high quality, imaginative and technically sound design solutions that encourage physical activity in an urban setting, drawing in expertise and guidance to support colleagues and partners.

  • Help facilitate effective community engagement and co-design, to shape facilities and spaces capable of promoting physical activity on a long-term sustainable basis.

  • Develop links to ensure opportunities around active travel, including activities such as walking and cycling, are exploited.

  • Provide leadership and support to the London Sport team on key aspects of facility work and relevant capital investment programmes.

  • Develop a thorough understanding of key audiences and communities which will help identify and shape priorities and capital interventions by London Boroughs and other local partners.

  • Contribute to, and where relevant lead, project meetings and capital project proposals with partners and other stakeholders.

  • Share and embed learning within local authorities and other partners at a strategic level.

  • Build and enhance London Sport’s connection to political decision-making around urban planning and development, ensuring the organisation is well-positioned to advocate for the role of physical activity and sport in London’s future urban infrastructure

 

Who you are:

  • You have significant experience of developing and shaping strategic partnerships to effect change

  • You have experience of facility and capital project development

  • You have experience of managing and implementing a multi-discipline approach

  • You can influence facility planning and how it applies to strategic vision and outcomes

  • You have excellent interpersonal, communication and networking skills

  • You will bring solid connections and relationships within the development, architecture, planning or capital investment disciplines
