Job Description

Role Purpose

The Digital User Experience Officer is responsible for overseeing and contributing to end-to-end user-centric solution design and content design for the organisation’s digital products and solutions, ensuring that the user experience vision and goals are achieved. They will act as the user experience (UX) lead for GTC Scotland’s suite of digital products and services, contributing to product vision and planning, creating design concepts, and leading UX research and testing.   

Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Lead user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, collaborating with colleagues and third-party suppliers/developers to create and implement intuitive, attractive and user-friendly digital products and solutions.  

  • Lead UX research and testing, working with colleagues and stakeholders to understand user needs.

  • Contribute to product vision and planning, playing a key role in ensuring that users are placed at the centre of all product development and delivery activities.

  • Map and document user journeys, illustrating user personas and stories. 

  • Turn high level product requirements into workflows and designs.

  • Develop user interface mock-ups and prototypes around user needs, conducting concept and usability testing to gather feedback. 

  • Contribute to product specifications, communicating design ideas and prototypes to developers. 

  • Ensure UI design best practice, ensuring all digital products meet usability and accessibility standards.

  • Oversee the design, execution, and maintenance of digital content across the website and digital product interfaces, ensuring content is optimised and meets requirements.

  • Perform other duties that may be reasonably required within the scope of your role as assigned to you.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Bachelors Degree in a relevant discipline (SCQF Level 9), or equivalent attested vocational or work-based training 

  • User Experience (UX) certification

  • Evidence of ongoing professional learning

Desirable

  • Bachelors Degree (or equivalent) in UI/UX Design, Web Design, or relevant specialist discipline (SCQF Level 9) or equivalent attested vocational or work-based training 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Evidenced experience in creating and implementing UX design, working as a professional UX Designer, UI Designer or in a similar role

  • Experience of content design and information architecture 

  • Good working knowledge of HTML/CSS (JavaScript is a plus)

  • Strong portfolio of successful UX/UI design projects 

  • Proficient in design software tools (eg, Balsamiq, Adobe Creative Suite) and protoyping tools (eg, Figma)

  • Experience of working with 3rd party software developers and UI/web developers

  • Experience in building and maintaining effective working partnerships with internal and external users/partners/suppliers

  • Excellent digital literacy including competency with Microsoft 365 applications (including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Dynamics) 

  • Experience of managing and/or conducting user research
