About the role

 

As a Peer Support Worker you will deliver a quality holistic service to GHH clients 3 days per week (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday). No two days are the same at GHH and this role will expose you to a diverse client base and a wide network of partner organisations. You will manage your own case load providing advice and advocacy to members of the Armed Forces community in the Glasgow area.

 

We have received funding to continue our long running football project, Glasgow Veterans United and begin a 12 month reminiscence project and a two year adaptive curling project. You will lead on one of these projects and assist other Peer Support Workers with their group activities as needed. There will be opportunity to co-produce and develop future projects with our clients to best meet a broad range of needs.

 

Please note we are currently recruiting for two Peer Support Worker positions, this one and a full time role with a focus on mental health and wellbeing. 

 

 

About the team

 

Glasgow’s Helping Heroes is a friendly, informal team based in the Pearce Institute in Glasgow. We are currently working flexibly between the office and home with some outreach work too. The team at GHH work with a variety of internal and external partners including the nearby SSAFA branches and Scottish Support Office. You will work most closely with the new Senior Peer Support Worker and other Peer Support Workers.

 

 

About you

 

To be successful in this role you will be familiar with the Armed Forces charities and broader third sector and be a strong communicator. This experience may have been gained through working or volunteering in adjacent fields or directly with members of the Armed Forces community. It is essential that you can relate as a peer with our client group and so must have served in the British Armed Forces.

 

You will manage a varied caseload, providing holistic advice on a range of complex issues including financial assistance, education, employment and wellbeing. Working collaboratively with other members of the team and using your knowledge of charities and statutory organisations you will ensure the appropriate practical and emotional support is available. This will include submitting requests for financial assistance to service charities on behalf of clients.

 

Previous experience of leading group projects and building strong networks would be advantageous.
