About The Role
The role supports the Director of Finance & Operations to ensure key finance system data and reporting is accurate, complete and timely. The position upholds policies and procedures, and ensures compliance with GAAP Accounting Standards and relevant legislation.
The role works closely together with the Finance teams of other network entities, and fosters a continuous improvement culture, identifying and implementing opportunities to improve finance systems, operations and processes. The role consults with the Operations team and vendors on financial management system functionality and enhancements, and collaborates with internal stakeholders to enhance the user experience.

You embrace a partnering approach and can communicate complex financial information to a non-finance audience in multiple formats. You’re passionate about leveraging your first-rate financial accounting skills to help solve the climate crisis.
Key Responsibilities
Preparation of monthly financial reports covering balance sheet, profit and loss, internal management reports and cash flow statements
Maintaining and managing the general ledger including the monthly balance sheet, banking and expense reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable
Completion of the monthly accruals, journals, fixed assets and depreciation schedules
Assisting in the administration and reporting of our retirement benefits
Weekly cash flow reporting
Overseeing payroll for employees and ensuring compliance with employer financial obligations, and ensuring reconciliation with our general ledger
Assisting in the preparation of year-end close, 1099 reporting, and annual financial reports
Ensuring accounting standards and policies are adhered to, that appropriate financial controls, systems and delegations are in place, and compliance occurs
Collaborating with external auditors for completion of annual audits
Supports a program of continuous improvement and automation to support management reporting, business review and planning cycles.
Aligns own work and OKRs with Sunrise’s mission and values.
Required skills, knowledge and experience
CPA certification or equivalent membership of a professional accounting body;
A working knowledge of, and experience in financial management practices, financial reporting and business planning processes, including related party transactions.
Experience in the delivery and development of financial reporting including a sound understanding of the underlying standards and principles.
Experience in implementing and optimizing financial systems and processes including change management.
Strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to troubleshooting and problem solving.
High level competence in Excel (or similar), numeracy, and reporting tools.
Sound verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on financial reporting to non-finance audiences.
Commitment to providing a quality internal service with high levels of satisfaction.
Experience working internationally across cultures, and in contributing to inclusive team cultures.
A passion for supporting action on climate change and a commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.
Desirable skills, knowledge and experience
A working knowledge of the financial management of complex granting arrangements in a non-profit organisation.
