Job Description
The Evacuation Manager role is a dynamic job where everyday is different! The Evacuation Manager solves problems, thinks creatively, and makes impact by supporting instructors in the field. You will ask questions such as what trends are we seeing in student behavior this season? What training topics do instructors need? How can we work more effectively to support teams in the field?
The Evacuation Manager is a full-time job that works on the evacuation phone for the full Rocky Mountain operating season. The Evacuation Manager works closely with the Evacuation coordinator to support RM courses by trading off 3-5 day 24 hour shifts on the phone.

What does an Evacuation Manager do?
The Evacuation Manager supports field courses based out of NOLS Rocky Mountain and associated locations: the Rocky Mountain River Base and Three Peaks Ranch in a variety of circumstances via the evacuation phone. The Evacuation Manager trains and acts as a mentor and guide for RM Locations.
The Evacuation Manager works closely with the Leadership Team at Rocky Mountain locations to coordinate all aspects of in-field support as well as instructor and student field evacuations. This role supports instructors and students in the field through logistical, medical or behavioral issues. This role is crucial to the function of successful field courses.
In this role you will be the main person responsible for the following activities:
Carry the evacuation phone 24 hours/day for 3-5 days/3-5 nights in a row.
The Evacuation Manager oversees all aspects of the Evacuation office including electronics, paperwork, evacuation systems, and logistics, billing, and risk management paperwork.
Coach instructors in tactics and decisions regarding evacuations, student performance/behavioral issues, and course dynamics.
Supervise and coordinate logistics for Rocky Mountain evacuations. Consult and assist in evacuation support and logistics for the River base and Three Peaks Ranch.
Make parent/emergency contact phone calls related to student behavioral issues and/or evacuations. Communicate decision making and next steps with clarity to emergency contacts.
Facilitate the experience of evacuated or expelled students with respect, compassion, and accountability.
Coach field staff on risk management documentation and decision making; contribute to NOLS Accepted Field Practices updates and development.
Calculate evacuation expenses for students and submit reports to the NOLS finance department.
Train field and program staff on all aspects of the Rocky Mountain evacuations (protocols, procedures, documentation, paperwork, challenging phone conversations).
Collaborate and work closely together with the Evacuation Coordinator to create vision and systems for the Evacuation office.
Desire for this person to be an active NOLS field instructor with experience Course Leading or hold similar experience at another organization.

A passion to iterate resources and trainings for instructors as it pertains to the Evacuation Office in conjunction with Expedition Education and Risk Management departments
Ability to task-switch quickly between field phone calls and organize logistics in Lander, while keeping track of all details related to different situations being managed simultaneously from the field.
Be able to think creatively in relation to field evacuation logistics, student support in town and utilizing team resources.
Ability to execute a higher volume of work within a shorter work week.
Be a team player, within the program department and throughout all NOLS Rocky Mountain departments. Contribute to an environment that encourages field staff and students to feel relaxed, supported, and focused going into the field and while on course.
In your first 6 months, you will:
Contribute to Rocky Mountain Program Team vision and goals for the season and future seasons.
Think critically to create bigger picture projects based on instructor/student needs with the Evacuation Manager and sometimes other stakeholders in Expedition Operations.
Organize, input, and review risk management paperwork for the current season.
Collaborate on refining evacuation operational systems with the Rocky Mountain locations (RMRB, TPR)
