Job Description

We’re looking for a Policy Assistant to work on Sustainability and DEI – a great opportunity if you’re interested in working in policy and want to make a real difference. In this role, you’ll support important work on climate change and DEI, helping to bring people together across the ABI and making sure our members are well supported. You’ll work closely with a range of teams and networks, gaining hands-on experience in a busy and collaborative policy environment.

Why work here?

When meeting us, you’ll quickly discover that the best thing about the ABI is the people. We’re hugely proud that 98% feel the ABI cares about their wellbeing and we are empowered to bring our whole self to work without fear of judgment. We work at the forefront of policy development - helping to get things right before they are implemented and ironing out bumps where they are identified in existing rules.

Our team is made up of people who are new to insurance, those who are highly experienced, and everyone in-between, so we welcome people from all industry backgrounds.

What’s the job?

  • Support the ABI’s work on sustainability and climate change, including the transition to a cleaner, greener economy.

  • Help run member working groups on investment, climate change and DEI by organising meetings, preparing papers and keeping things on track.

  • Work with colleagues across the ABI to make sure this work links up with wider priorities on regulation, investment and long‑term savings.

  • Research and build your knowledge of emerging sustainability and DEI issues, sharing insights with colleagues and members.

  • Help communicate our work through briefings, newsletters, policy updates and events, including meeting external stakeholders.

  • Provide day‑to‑day support to senior colleagues and play an active part in the wider Regulation Directorate team.

What skills do you need?

  • Planning and organisation - plan, prioritise and deliver work across a wide range of issues and projects

  • Communication – your written communication is of a high standard, and you can articulate arguments supported by robust evidence.

  • Making the technical accessible – you can summarise complex information in a way that everyone can understand.

  • Relationship building– you work proactively with others and can build good working relationships with members, stakeholders and colleagues.

  • Curiosity – you might not have even thought of working in policy before, but you can research new topics.

We encourage you to apply, even if you don’t have all the skills above right now.

Throughout the interview and assessment process, we will be looking for you to demonstrate our values; We are Brave; We take Ownership; We are Appreciative; We are Human and We are Curious.
