About the position:


This is a unique opportunity to be part of building and managing two growing businesses in a dynamic and impactful industry. The Operations Associate will play a key role in supporting and managing a range of internal projects at Tideline and BlueMark, with roughly an equal split of time between the two businesses. The role will provide experience in a diversity of focus areas, while strengthening a growing startup, supporting the evolution and growth of a mature business, and interacting regularly with senior management in doing so.

Tideline and BlueMark are seeking candidates with exceptional judgment and discretion, an ability to navigate varied priorities with a strong degree of ownership and attention to detail, a flexible and solutions-oriented disposition, an interest in social and environmental causes, and a collaborative mindset. While the role may be somewhat flexible to align with an individual’s experience and interests, strong candidates will bring experience and/or education in operations, HR, financial analysis or management, and/or accounting. It is essential the candidate has experience with and an aptitude for managing projects and balancing multiple responsibilities.

The position will be based in Portland, OR or San Francisco, CA, with remote work until returning to the office is considered safe. The role will be performed in close collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer of Tideline and BlueMark.

The primary responsibilities include:

  • Human resources: Contribute to the execution of various elements of HR, including managing recruiting processes, maintaining HR management systems, and coordinating the implementation of professional development processes

  • Financial management: Provide ongoing support for various elements of financial management, including for ad hoc financial analyses and recurring activities such as reporting and budgeting, while working with others to enhance financial management systems and tools

  • Investor relations: Contribute to fundraising and investor relations, including preparing for funder interactions, reporting, and data requests

  • Strategy: Contribute to ongoing prep for internal strategy discussions and decisions, as well as for team meetings such as annual retreats

  • Legal and governance: Assist with preparations for board meetings and reporting, as well as light coverage for legal activities such as contract prep and review

  • Risk management and compliance: Oversee the implementation of firm-wide IT policies and data management / security processes (in consultation with IT experts); strengthen compliance policies and processes

  • Other operations: Contribute to facilities-related strategy and management, as well as special projects as needed

  • Potential additional responsibilities: According to the individual’s background and experience, the role may also include additional elements of financial management such as financial modeling and/or accounting/bookkeeping functions

Desired qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Experience and/or education in project management, financial analysis, accounting, HR, and/or other operational functions

  • Experience in a small business environment and/or in a professional services firm a plus

  • Expertise and/or training in financial modeling preferred

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with high attention to detail and organization

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Adept at using Microsoft Office

  • Entrepreneurial and collaborative disposition, with a bias towards action

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion

  • Strong relationship-building skills

  • Sense of humor and self-awareness
