About the Impact Investing Institute

The Impact Investing Institute is an independent, non-profit organisation working to transform capital markets so they support a fairer, greener, more resilient future. We see impact investing as an effective way to achieve that transformation and so we work to accelerate the field, both in the UK and globally.

Through our Challenge Lab, we come up with innovative solutions that help private finance better address societal challenges like preventative health, left-behind neighbourhoods, and a fair transition to net zero. Via our Field Building, we implement impact investing insights and know-how across financial services through applied research, like guides, training, networks and communities of practice. We also engage and seek to influence policymakers and regulators to create an enabling environment where impact investing can thrive, both in the UK and globally.

We have a wide, global network across financial services, social investment, businesses, government and regulators. Our work is rooted in collaborative partnership and co-creation: we take existing expertise as our starting point and facilitate interactions and partnerships which catalyse fresh thinking and solutions.

The role

The Programme Lead will be responsible for the initiation and delivery of an exciting new initiative at the Institute, funded by the Laudes Foundation. This new programme, which will run between January 2025 and June 2026, will accelerate investor action for equitable and inclusive transitions in critical sectors. The programme will build on the Institute’s pioneering Just Transition Finance Challenge to develop and test approaches to mobilise institutional investment, with a demonstrator project in India's fashion industry that will be co-implemented with a local partner.

The Programme Lead will provide substantive expertise, leading on strategic programme initiation and management, relationship management, external representation and engagement, and the delivery of research and engagement outputs. They will work alongside a Programme Manager within the Institute, who will manage day-to-day delivery of the programme, as well as with senior stakeholders, including the Co-CEOs, Board members, Advisory Council, and externally.

Key responsibilities

Strategic programme design and management

  • Transform our programme proposal into an actionable plan for delivering on the vision of the Institute’s new Just Industrial Transitions programme and initiate the programme’s delivery.

  • Provide programmatic oversight to ensure timely and high-quality delivery, working closely with a Programme Manager who will manage day-to-day delivery of the programme. Oversee budgeting and resource management; manage internal personnel, external contractors, and in-country partners (in India); and lead delivery of different types of outputs, including research reports, publications, advisory and events.

  • Using technical subject matter expertise, research, writing, and communications skills, lead the design and production of programme deliverables.

  • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with project stakeholders, internal and external, and lead on internal and external reporting, including to the Institute Co-CEOs, Board and the programme’s funder.

  • Provide effective task management of project personnel (internal and external), ensuring their delivery of assigned tasks, including the full-time Programme Manager who will coordinate day-to-day delivery of the programme.

Relationship management and engagement

  • Lead the Institute’s external engagement relevant to the programme.

  • Develop and maintain a high-level network and build effective partnerships with global stakeholders who are critical to just industrial transitions, including across the financial sector, industry bodies, policy makers, government, international organisations, regulators, civil society, and academia. Many of these stakeholders are already within the Institute’s networks; others you will reach through proactive and compelling engagement.

  • Represent the Institute as an expert in meetings and external forums, such as industry and multilateral initiatives.

  • Represent and promote the Institute in the media and at external events, including delivering keynotes, and participating and/or moderating in panels and roundtables.

  • Work closely with the Communications and Engagement Team to maximise the impact of the programme, through co-designing and delivering effective communications strategies and outputs.

Personal profile

Required

  • Track record of delivery of strategic programme design and management, with significant autonomy – you will be the primary person responsible for the design, initiation and delivery of this programme, securing/drawing on support where needed, including from the Institute’s Programme Manager.

  • Strong knowledge of the functioning of capital markets and different actors therein, particularly in an emerging market finance mobilisation context. You will be interested and able to quickly grasp new and complex areas of work in the broader field of sustainable finance and development finance.

  • Proven problem solving, multitasking and time management skills. You will be able to thrive in a small, fast-paced organisation, operating at a strategic and operational level – and everywhere in between. You will be comfortable keeping multiple workstreams and objectives on track, and be responsive and adaptable.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills. You will be confident speaking in public, leading and chairing meetings.

  • Experience of working with partners operating in different geographies and cultural contexts.

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills with internal and external stakeholders, including at the most senior levels.

Desirable

  • Expertise in the development and analysis of financial models that can mobilise private capital at scale for sustainable development, including blended finance and other innovative models.

  • Strong knowledge of climate, sustainable development and just transition concepts, particularly as relevant in an emerging markets context.

  • Sectoral knowledge of the fashion industry.

  • Knowledge of working in India.
