Purpose of Role

Responsible for delivering a first-class month end and year end management information and leading the financial aspects of implementing a new CRM and finance system

Key Accountabilities

Monthly reporting, quarterly reforecasting, budgeting and financial analysis

·        Own the month end process, including the preparation and oversight of income and balance sheet reconciliations to prevent financial loss for the organisation.

·        Lead on certain complex reconciliations such as membership income and grants payments

·        Produce monthly management accounts, including analysis and commentary, for review by the HoF

·        Lead the annual budget and quarterly reforecasting processes (including timetables, input templates, output tables, challenge sessions with budget holders and commentary) delivering a robust budget and quarterly reforecasts for the HoF to review

·        Supporting the development and implementation of best financial practices including improvements to processes, controls, ways of working and the format and content of management reporting

·        Work with the HoF and budget holders to anticipate and understand significant financial variances, early identification of issues and ways of improving efficiency and cost control

·        Work with budget holders and the HoF to model new business and cost saving initiatives

 

Finance systems

·        Be the finance representative on the CRM implementation team (discovery in 2024, implementation 2025)

·        Work closely with the Finance Manager & Tech Team on potential enhancements to the finance system and also the options analysis for a change in the finance system post the 2025 audit

·        Lead (with the HoF, Data and Tech Teams) the implementation of any new finance system including data cleanse and migration, testing, cut-over reconciliations and understanding and implementing any changes in approach necessary for month-end close, journal processing and reconciliations

·        Work closely with the finance team to provide staff training in relation to the finance system

 

Year-end & audit

·        Work closely with the Finance Manager on the preparation and management of the year-end close and audit timetables

·        Support the Finance Manager and HoF to close the year-end books, prepare the financial statements, prepare schedules for the auditors and respond to associated audit questions

 

Management

·        Support the part qualified management accountant specifically, and HoF generally, with managing the finance function

·        Work with the HoF to measure and report progress against 2024 finance OKRs

·        Identify skill gaps and training needs in finance team and budget holders.  Provide training where relevant

PERSON DESCRIPTION

Qualifications

·        Qualified accountant

·        Member of a recognised accounting body in the UK

·        Candidates with equivalent experience or qualifications will be considered

 

Knowledge

·        Charity finance, including the SORP and related requirements

·        Thorough understanding of management and financial accounting principles and techniques, including monthly management and annual statutory reporting

·        Proven experience of budgeting, reforecasting and data analysis

·        A good understanding of financial control, processes and practices in a charity

·        Microsoft Business Central financial system

·        Power BI

·        Membership and / or grants giving organisation

Experience

·        Significant experience of month-end and year-end processes and reconciliations

·        Working with multiple stakeholders to prepare and deliver budgets and reforecasts

·        Providing high-quality analysis with meaningful impact

·        Track record of communicating complex financial information in a concise and easy to understand format

·        Preparing papers for Senior Management

·        Finance system implementation

·        Excellent Excel skills

·        Excellent presentation skills

·        Managing, training and coaching staff

·        Preparing papers for Trustee committees

·        Managing implementation of a CRM system (from a finance team perspective)
