Job Description

Bethnal Green Ventures is a leading early-stage ‘tech for good’ investor and accelerator. Our mission is to build a global community of great tech startups & founders which provide huge positive social impact and financial returns. Since 2012 we’ve backed over 110 startups with a social purpose through our accelerator programme, including Fairphone, DrDoctor, Overleaf, Piclo, Our Path, Bright Little Labs and many more.

We’re proud of the lifelong support we offer our portfolio and are currently raising two new investment funds. We’re looking for a highly motivated person to join the BGV team to lead our follow-on investments into our most promising tech for good ventures at pre-seed and seed (following £20k initial investments at accelerator stage) as well as profitable exits from our maturing portfolio.

While the core BGV team is small (we’re a dynamic bunch of eight people), our wider community includes over 60 live startups in our portfolio and over 100 mentors in our network. We work alongside our ventures in our co-working space near Aldgate East and help run the London Tech for Good meetup with over 7,500 members. BGV gives you the benefits of being in a small team whilst being part of a bigger movement.

As Head of Portfolio your responsibilities will be varied but will include:

  • Maintaining a comprehensive understanding of our portfolio’s financial and impact performance against our investment model and developing strategies to proactively manage it at portfolio and venture level

  • Evaluating follow-on investment and exit opportunities, preparing materials for, and participating in Investment Committee meetings

The role will include:

  • Building great relationships with our portfolio companies; earning their trust and providing meaningful, relevant and practical advice to help them develop and grow their businesses

  • Improving and implementing the portfolio team’s investment and support offer for scaling early-stage tech for good ventures

  • Working closely with BGV’s Head of Partnerships to identify and build valuable relationships with institutional and private investors, corporates and other organisations of strategic value to our ventures

  • Line management of BGV’s Investment Associate

The ideal person will:

  • Have an affinity with BGV’s mission and values and be excited about the opportunity to work with socially motivated tech startups

  • Have direct experience of managing investments in tech ventures ideally at seed/Series A with demonstrable involvement in securing growth stage investment and successful exits

  • Be able to effectively combine a data-driven approach with risk taking and commercial instinct

  • Demonstrate effective line-management skills with genuine enthusiasm for developing high-performing direct reports

  • Be team oriented, with a ‘can do’ approach to helping out the wider BGV team where necessary

  • Possess strong financial modelling skills

Benefits:

  • An amazing experience working alongside startups solving big social and environmental problems

  • Exposure to our growing network of alumni, mentors and investors

  • A great work environment and supportive team culture

  • Flexible working

We are committed to building a diverse community and strongly encourage applications from women, minorities and individuals with disabilities.

We will be holding first round interviews between 28th January and 1st February.
