About you and the role:
As an impact investor, we manage a $100 million fund and invest in companies and projects with solutions for urban greenhouse gas emissions. We’re particularly interested in investments that generate benefits beyond carbon reduction such as improving people’s health, creating new green jobs, boosting urban resiliency, and contributing to a fair society.
In this role, you’ll work with the impact investing team to provide due diligence, monitoring, and reporting on innovative companies and technologies that reduce carbon emissions in urban settings.
What you’ll do:
Due Diligence, Deal Structuring and Market Intelligence
Screen incoming impact investing opportunities and support the development of potential transactions and sources of transactions
Under the guidance of the Senior Manager and/or VP,, Impact Investing, conduct in-depth due diligence of potential investment opportunities including analysis of investee prospects, expected investment returns, project viability, financial statements, repayment capabilities, and collateral.
Provide financial, industry, economic, and other analysis and insights to facilitate decision-making.
Coordinate third party research required as part of diligence process
Work with the Research & Innovation team on quantification of GHG and co-benefit impacts
Identify investment opportunities that align with TAF’s mandate and focus areas including through participation in conferences, development of a network of contacts and engagement in pitch sessions.
Support the development of investment strategies (including innovative structures and repayment methods)
Monitoring and Reporting
Documentation (hard and soft) and day-to-day administration of investment transactions from start to finish (i.e. intake, due diligence, approval, deal closing, repayment process)
Maintain a current and accurate pipeline and database of transaction opportunities and call/investigation reports
Maintain updated information on existing investments
Obtain up to date supporting information annually such as financial reporting specific to each investment
Flag challenges and recommend escalation or action
Committee Support
Provide support for and ensure the smooth functioning of TAF’s volunteer Investment and Direct Investment Committees
Finalize Committee presentation packages for distribution
Support presentation of opportunities and recommendations to TAF’s Direct Investment Committee
Communications Support
Collaborate with the communications & campaigns team on the development and implementation of investment-related communications
Contribute to the development and implementation of investment-related communications plans, in coordination with the Campaigns & Communications team.
General
Represent TAF publicly in a manner consistent with TAF’s professional standards, providing thought-leadership in fora and networks related to impact investing
Collaborate with other staff members to seek out areas of synergy among different program areas
Participate in TAF staff knowledge seminars to transfer learnings to others on the team
Participate actively at staff meetings, retreats and through ad hoc staff working groups
Be an active member of a focus area.
The kind of skills and experience we’re looking for:
One to three years of relevant experience working in a related field (banking, venture capital, private equity) desirable.
Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, business or economics or equivalent direct work experience.
Familiarity with financing of renewable energy, alternate energies and energy efficiency a clear asset.
Demonstrated ability to research and assimilate significant amounts of information.
Good knowledge of financial markets and trends.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively with a variety of stakeholders through different channels of communication
Great time management skills, with the ability to be flexible and prioritize tasks as needed to meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Advanced working knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), video conferencing tools, and highly skilled in using spreadsheets, pivot tables and presentation software.
Familiarity with various research tools like Pitchbook, Crunchbase and Bloomberg an asset.
