Job Description
Role Purpose
The Data Product Officer is responsible for coordinating the technical operation and ongoing improvement of the organisation’s data management and analytics solutions, including the effective flow of data between integrated solutions. They play a key role in the technical management of the Register of Teachers’ database, with a strong focus on ensuring data quality and integrity. They take a lead role in defining technical requirements for data products and coordinating the planning, development, and deployment of updates.
Role Specific Responsibilities
Take a key role in the optimisation of the GTC Scotland’s data products, including the Register of Teachers’ database, with a focus on ensuring data quality and integrity.
Contribute to vision and planning for the organisation’s data products, ensuring that users and user requirements are placed at the centre of all feature design and development activities.
Contribute to the development of Product Roadmaps for the organisation’s data products.
Work closely with colleagues to translate business/user requirements into meaningful technical requirements that align with the digital vision and strategy.
Work closely with the Data Science Officer on data analytics requirements.
Work closely with the Digital Product Officer, colleagues and suppliers to ensure the effective flow of data between integrated solutions
Contribute to the documentation of digital processes and data workflows.
Oversee the day-to-day operation and maintenance of GTC Scotland’s data products, working closely with Digital Helpdesk colleagues and suppliers to ensure effective support, issue management and bug fixing.
Ensure a standard approach to the Software Development Lifecycle process to manage the effective development, testing, and deployment of data product updates and features, including the migration of data where required.
Ensure a standard approach to change management processes related to data products, contributing to viability and digital impact assessment for change requests.
Liaise closely with third-party developers to assess viability of change requests, generate costings, and plan updates.
Ensure all data product updates are appropriately logged, documented, and communicated to users.
Perform other duties that may be reasonably required within the scope of your role as assigned to you.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
Essential
Batchelors Degree or equivalent qualification (SCQF Level 9), or equivalent attested vocational or work-based training
Evidence of ongoing professional learning
Desirable
Bachelors Degree in Data Engineering, Data Analytics, Data Science or related discipline (or equivalent level of qualification) (SCQF Level 9) or equivalent work based training
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
Experience in a data product, data analytics or similar/related role
Experience in developing data products and and working with data visualisation/reporting software
Knowledge of information security compliance and best practice
Experience in building and maintaining effective working partnerships with internal and external users/partners/suppliers
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent digital literacy including competency with Microsoft 365 applications (including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Dynamics)
Desirable
Experience of Microsoft Dynamics 365
