Job Description

Attention all Communications Officers! Are you ready to take on a challenge and drive forward the net zero agenda? The Executive Secretariat for the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) is seeking an experienced Communications Officer to join their team.

The successful candidate for the role of Communications Officer will need to provide a high level of administrative support to the Communications Director, as well as develop and implement effective communications activities for external stakeholders and support the wider team to deliver its overall programme of work.

Responsiblities include:

  • supporting the Communications Director with the delivery of creative and strategic communications strategies; coordinating day-to-day communications activity, managing ICVCM's communications agency, and producing high-quality, well-written communications content. Additional key duties include:

  • management of: Director’s diary and inbox, shared ICVCM mailboxes

  • organising internal and external briefings and meetings

  • preparing briefing notes and decks

  • Supporting the Board and executive team on media, market formation and fundraising activities.

This is a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment and contribute to meaningful environmental and social outcomes. You will work closely with the Communications Director, Board, Management, Distinguished Advisory Group, and Expert Panel members, as well as the ICVCM’s external communications agencies, private sector partners, and funders, to support the successful flow of strategic messaging through the ICVCM's communications and marketing channels.

To be successful in this role, you must be an excellent client relations and project manager with experience working across multiple projects and stakeholder groups. You must be proactive and detail-driven, and have a genuine desire to grow your understanding of relevant media, finance, and the policy landscape.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in media relations, digital communications, and marketing, as well as experience working in the climate change and/or sustainability space.

Desirable experience includes working in the financial or professional services industry, understanding of carbon markets, and previous experience working in small-business/start-up environments.

This is an exciting role that requires a self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal and organisational skills, creative flair, and a strong understanding of social media best practice. Working knowledge of additional languages, including Spanish, French or Portuguese is an advantage.

To succeed you will be a pragmatic, results-focused, highly efficient administrator, who able to act independently. You will need to have first rate stakeholder management and communication skills, together with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks. You will need to be comfortable working with partners and colleagues in multiple counties and working in different country contexts. As part of a small team, you will also need to be flexible and be willing to undertake tasks to support the wider activities of the Integrity Council, when required.

Key duties

  • Diary and inbox management for the Director of Communications

  • Managing a number of shared mailboxes, responding to queries and following up with members of the Integrity Council, where appropriate

  • Updating our CRM system and building out the database of contacts

  • Co-ordinating working groups and expert committee schedules

  • Co-ordinating Board and Secretariat agenda and papers

  • Taking minutes and actions of all Board and Secretariat meetings and tracking follow-up

  • Co-ordinating and preparing presentations on behalf of the Communications Director and Executive team

  • supporting the market formation team - preparing papers and slide decks, updating the engagement tracker, maintaining ongoing contact with stakeholders

  • Supporting HR and recruitment processes

  • Copy editing and proofreading copy and documents across the organisation.

  • Coordinating day-to-day communications activity

  • Coordinating with ICVCM’s communications agency

  • Updating the content and event calendar with relevant industry events

  • Preparing speakers for public events

  • Manage ongoing projects when necessary

This is an exciting and fast paced role and as the Integrity Council is a start-up, you must be willing to work flexibly and take on additional duties, as required.

Essential experience

  • Experience of co-ordinating complex schedules and working across multiple time zones

  • Experience of providing administrative support to senior executives in a corporate or financial institutional setting

  • Experience of producing minutes of meetings and drafting / editing written documents and correspondence independently

  • Experienced administrator, used to managing public enquiries

  • Experience of working in an international context

  • Experience in corporate communications

Desirable Experience

  • Experience of working in a start-up environment and in a small team

  • Experience of working with academics or within an NGO

Skills, Abilities & Attributes

  • Ability to work under pressure to agreed deadlines and juggle competing priorities

  • Strong organisational skills

  • Have an aptitude for planning, co-ordinating and time management.

  • Ability to independently produce minutes of meetings and draft / edit written documents and correspondence

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Strong IT skills – MS Office / SharePoint (especially MS PowerPoint).

  • A strong independent work ethic - ability to flourish in a dynamic and demanding work environment as a member of a high-performing, globally distributed team

  • Willingness and desire to ‘roll up the sleeves’ in a start-up environment and contribute both flexibly and positively across the small, multi-disciplinary team of the Integrity Council
