Job Description

Background

The Finance Innovation Lab is a charity that builds power to transform the financial system for people and planet.  We cultivate a community of systems-changemakers and work on initiatives that impact mental models and power dynamics in finance for deep, lasting change.

One of our programmes is to support civil society organisations to work together to ensure that financial sector policy is made with input from champions of the public interest, and not just the industry lobby. This has never been more important, as the government is currently undertaking the biggest reform of financial services policy since the 1980s.

To support this work, we produce a monthly summary and analysis of all major financial sector policy, regulatory and legislative processes, called the 'Forward Look’.  This contract would be to undertake the background research for this summary. Your work would support a vital input into making sure that voices pushing for financial sector rules to work in the interests of society, the environment, and a sustainable economy are well informed, organised and, ultimately, heard. If the contract goes well, there may be additional pieces of research to be undertaken.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • carefully scanning all relevant government websites (Bank of England, TCA, PRA etc), following the Forward Look process guidelines for this, and noting all relevant new policy processes and initiatives, including progress on existing processes.

  • keeping the Forward Look process guidelines up to date if improvements are identified.

  • producing a summary sentence for each new item identified, following the guidelines.

Who we are looking for

You will:

  • have, or be studying for, a postgraduate degree and will show evidence of research experience.

  • be consistent and reliable, and pay carefully attention to detail, to ensure the Forward Look is accurate and complete.

  • have an interest in the financial system, social innovation, sustainability and/or social justice.

You will be asked to attach a CV to your application - please make sure this is no more than 2 pages long.

TIming and budget

The contract will be for 2 days research per month at £100 per day (plus VAT). This is an ongoing contract, with an initial review point after two months to ensure the arrangement is working for both sides.

The contract would ideally commence from w/c 14 March latest.
