Job Description

We are hiring a Marketing and Events Assistant!

Summary

This role sits between our marketing and events functions. You will take on a broad range of marketing work spanning email campaigns, website updates, podcast admin and channel reporting. You'll also help plan and deliver Nesta's live and digital events, including our flagship Policy Live conference. You will support the wider communications team, playing a vital role in our communications efforts.

What you'll be doing:

Example tasks (including but not limited to:)

Marketing

  • Social media and content: Create, adapt and schedule engaging content across social media channels, while monitoring performance, audience engagement and emerging platform trends

  • Email marketing: Support the creation and distribution of regular Nesta newsletters and email outreach, while monitoring performance and maintaining audience data

  • Campaigns: Support the planning, delivery and reporting of marketing campaigns across digital channels, helping coordinate activity, assets, timelines and performance analysis

  • Employee advocacy: Maintain the employee advocacy platform, updating the tool with relevant content and distributing internal communications to support engagement

  • Reporting:  Update dashboard stats across Nesta, podcast, and web analytics (GA4) regularly and support with BAU and campaign reporting

  • Podcast: Alongside podcast programming tasks, support podcast social scheduling, web uploads and general promotional activity 

Events Marketing

  • Support email marketing campaigns and outreach efforts to engage audiences

  • Assist with the development of promotional content, registration lists and social media outreach to enhance attendee engagement before, during and after events

  • Manage and update pages on the website with accurate event information

  • Support podcast guest booking admin, including scheduling, correspondence and briefing materials

  • Support podcast social and web scheduling and monitor social media conversation

Events

  • Support the end-to-end planning and coordination of digital and live events

  • Assist the group events lead with programme and speaker research

  • Create comprehensive event materials, such as email invitations, speaker briefings, attendee information and on-site collateral

  • Help deliver seamless events through setup, managing registration, troubleshooting issues and providing on-site support

  • Gather feedback and help evaluate event performance and opportunities to improve 

  • Keep the event schedule and reporting dashboards up to date 

  • Ensure our event equipment is organised, accessible and in excellent condition for each event

  • Support the head of internal communications with the smooth running of all staff meetings and events

  • Support the team executive assistant with other team meeting set-up and other team events

General comms

  • Proofreading and publishing support across social, newsletters, blogs and event copy

  • Manage incoming inquiries via our dedicated Slack channels and Gmail inbox, directing requests to the appropriate communications team member for efficient resolution

  • Update BIT dashboard stats and support Employee Advocacy content updates

  • Update office TV screens with media highlights, Fika menu, and news starters

  • Provide general ad-hoc support to the wider communications team as required

What we're looking for:

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to confidently interact with colleagues, external speakers, guests and stakeholders

  • Proven effective time management skills, capable of prioritising and managing multiple tasks efficiently

  • Exceptional attention to detail, particularly when proofreading and preparing public-facing materials

  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities, including effectively addressing queries and knowing when and where to escalate issues

  • Comfortable and effective working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment

  • Curious about the changing communications and marketing landscape, from social media trends and emerging platforms to new ways of reaching audiences.

  • A genuine interest in gaining hands-on experience and developing a career in communications

  • Experience in using the following software and systems would be advantageous: Google Suite, Salesforce, Wagtail, Eventsforce, Canva, Streamyard, Sprout Social, Mailchimp

As with all members of Nesta Group's communications team, you are at your best working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with multiple projects and priorities. You have a positive, can-do attitude and a flexible approach, able to adapt to changing circumstances with good humour and an appetite for taking on new tasks and challenges. You also have strong communication skills, the ability to write and edit content for different audiences and a proven ability in (or enthusiasm to learn) web publishing and the creation of simple communications products like social cards or videos.

What we offer

Salary: Circa £29,300 plus an array of benefits including private medical insurance, dental insurance, the ability to buy and sell annual leave, eye care vouchers and more

Location: Hybrid, with two days per week in the London office. We ask that our team attend the office on Thursday and one other day of their choice.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, although some out-of-hours work will be required for attending events. Reasonable time off in lieu is given.

Flexibility: This is a full-time role but we offer a range of flexible working arrangements and encourage our people to take advantage of them. Many do.

Reports to: The group events lead, with a dotted line to the marketing manager.
