Job Description

We’re looking for an experience analyst to help lead on the delivery of research into key issues for the engineering sector around workforce, skills, and education. You’ll have strong quantitative research skills, excellent communication skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to manage complex projects. This is a varied role in a small team, working closely with other teams across the organisation.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Research, you will work across EngineeringUK’s research programme. You will help lead on the delivery of EngineeringUK’s research into key issues for the engineering sector, including the make-up of the current workforce and future workforce needs; the flow of young people through STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) education pathways; provision of STEM careers advice; and young people and their influencers’ attitudes towards engineering and technology.

 

We’re looking for an experienced analyst, with strong quantitative research skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage complex projects in a deadline-driven environment. A keen attention to detail is essential.

 

The role is London based at the EngineeringUK offices at 10 Lower Thames Street, London EC3R 6EN and may involve some travel in the UK. We believe that hybrid working has many benefits and are pleased to offer flexible working with a baseline of 2 days (or 40%) a week in our vibrant central London office overlooking the Thames. Person specification

Essential Skills / Competencies

·         Experience working on research projects from conception, developing appropriate methodologies, conducting primary research, through to analysis, report writing and publication.

·         Excellent statistical skills, with experience analysing large-scale datasets using inferential techniques (e.g. regression and multivariate analysis).

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing research reports and presenting findings to a range of audiences, especially communicating complex research to non-technical audiences.

·         Highly adept at using Excel and statistical analysis software (e.g. SPSS, Stata, R, or similar).

·         Experience working with both internal and external stakeholders, involving users in the development of research and supporting on dissemination.

·         Excellent attention to detail, with experience working with others to ensure high quality and accurate outputs.

·         Commitment to our mission and values, you will be able to engage with our values and work in a way that supports our commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

Desired Skills / Competencies

·       Knowledge of skills and education policy.

·       Experience analysing education and/or workforce datasets, such as the National Pupil Database, or apprenticeship or higher education datasets, the Labour Force Survey, Working Futures, or the Employer Skills Survey.

·       Experience conducting qualitative research, for example through focus groups or depth interviews.

 

Education / level of experience

·         Experience in a professional environment working on research or analysis.

·         A degree with a significant portion of mathematics, statistics or analysis, or equivalent experience.
