Appraisals Manager - The Modern House
Purpose
This role is two-fold: the Appraisals Manager is responsible for managing a team of Appraisals Specialists as well as winning new business and overseeing their own client work.
Management
In this aspect of the role, the manager oversees recruitment, onboarding and training of new starters. Day-day, they provide guidance and critical feedback to the team, ensuring the growth and continued learning of each appraiser. They work closely with the Head of Appraisals to continuously improve the performance of the appraisals team and ensure a high level of customer service, by analysing day-day reporting and implementing new strategies and processes as required.
Winning business
Appraisals Managers also undertakes their own client work - winning new business and instructing it in the best way for our clients and the company. They are responsible for ensuring their work is compliant with industry standards and regulations and have oversight that their team is also compliant.
They should model all standards expected of the team, externally and internally, and as such are an important ambassador for our brand.
Responsibilities
The Appraisals Manager's core responsibilities are:
To win new business (residential & on occasion commercial property) across the UK by travelling to meet clients at their homes
To pitch to and build relationships with potential clients and architects, delivering an outline of the company’s value propositions and service
To research and write up sales particulars
To proof sales particulars created by Appraisals Specialists and ensuring they are of a high creative standard, as well as compliant
To forge new business streams and make connections for the business
To represent the brand successfully by being well presented, articulate, design literate and knowledgeable about the UK property market
To ensure their work is compliant by logging information in our database in an accurate and timely manner
To ensure the correct processes are followed by the team and create new ones where needed
To carry out detailed training for direct reports
To model highest standards of customer care, imparting experience and best practice for newer / junior team members
Recruitment for new starters, reviewing applications and interviewing candidates
To manage and develop direct reports by providing feedback, regular one-to-ones and bi/annual reviews.
To handle complaints so that they are resolved in a timely and satisfactory manner
Appraisals team leadership
To provide targets and metrics for direct reports and track these on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
To monitor and report on team and individual performance, individually and against targets, and develop initiatives to motivate the team towards them
Knowledge & skills
Strong knowledge and interest in architectural design and/or the built environment
A strong understanding of our business model and value proposition as distinct within our sector
Experience leading and managing a diverse team in a commercial setting
Able to drive towards commercial targets and motivate the team to do so
Rounded knowledge of the UK property market and transaction process
Client-facing relationship building and negotiation skills, and strategic/analytical thinking
Exceptional presentation skills across written and verbal communications – with an emphasis on honesty and clarity
Analysis of and reporting on team performance, with ability to implement new ideas and processes within the team
Strong organiser, time-manager and multi-tasker
Strong market knowledge and understanding of the importance of integrity and compliance with industry standards
UK Driving Licence and appetite to travel
Over five years' experience in a professional environment OR relevant industry (architecture, design, estate agency, art, auctions)
Confident analysing quantitative information and analysis
Good understanding of UK geography and regionality
