Job Description

About us

We are Britain’s national equality regulator and a United Nations accredited ‘A status’ national human rights institution.

We uphold people’s rights without fear or favour. We use the full force of our legal powers to defend people from unfair or unequal treatment and to challenge breaches of the law. We advise on developing laws and provide guidance, training and support to enable compliance.

We bring people together to create change. We work with employers, governments and a wide range of organisations, to promote understanding of equality and human rights and we support them to make improvements in practice.

Our strategy for 2022-25 gives us a strong platform to show that we will use our powers to protect and promote equality and human rights, and that we have identified the main challenges in society where we can make a difference in our role as a regulator.

Overview of the role and responsibilities

The Equality and Human Rights Commission is looking for an experienced social media manager to join our friendly and trusted press office. This is a new role and an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled, experienced and perceptive social media professional. The ideal candidate will love creating content and copy that brings complex and sensitive topics to life, while positively engaging and growing audiences across our social channels

Our work sits at the heart of some of the most polarising debates facing the UK. This is a role for a creative professional who has the intellectual rigour, sensitivity and attention to detail needed to navigate challenging social media environments.

You will:

  • Create high quality content and copy for all EHRC social media accounts (currently Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube) to garner maximum engagement with our audiences.

  • Develop, run and evaluate highly creative paid-for campaigns. You will choose the best channels for the assigned objective, reach the right audience and demonstrate value for money.

  • Draft appropriate content for each account, according to its individual purpose, objectives and tone of voice.

  • Use digital monitoring/listening tools to identify trends relevant to the work of the EHRC. Apply sound judgement to provide trusted analysis, advise on and deliver appropriate responses from social media accounts.

  • Use analytical tools to evaluate the performance of our social media channels and posts and show impact. Suggest regular improvements to strategy, tactics, content and copy.

  • Accompany spokespeople to visits and engagements to capture and create social media moments.

  • Demonstrate best practice on social media for the EHRC as a whole and work across teams to ensure all accounts adhere to the same high standards.

  • Support the wider press office by taking part in an out-of-hours duty rota (roughly one week in every five or six) and by contributing to a daily media analysis report.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

The full list of Knowledge, Skills and Experience required for the role can be found in the Candidate Pack.

Benefits

In return you can expect to receive a competitive salary, 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays (full time FTE) and access to the Civil Service Pension Scheme and partnership pension schemes.

We will provide investment in your career, giving you access to Civil Service Learning, our peer learning programme, specialist training and mentoring.

We offer a range of family friendly benefits, such as enhanced parental leave, flexible working including non-contractual hybrid working.

You will also have access to our wellbeing offering, including our employee assistance programme, mental health first aiders, health checks, discount gym membership and retail discounts, cycle to work scheme and other salary sacrifice options. In addition, we have a range of staff networks and social groups.
