Summary

We are the public body that looks after England’s historic environment. We champion historic places, helping people understand, value and care for them.

Historic England have a fantastic opportunity for you to join us as our Publications and Outreach Coordinator, joining our National Specialist Services Department.

The National Specialist Services Department delivers the specialist technical advice services required to support those who care for and make decisions about the stewardship of the historic environment. We provide technical specialist functions and set standards in conservation, heritage science and archaeology. We do this by developing and promoting evidence-based technical policy and best practice and providing specialist guidance within Historic England, to the English Heritage Trust through a shared service agreement, and to the wider sector.

What you will be doing

The overall purpose of the job is to increase the reach and influence of Historic England’s specialist technical knowledge and advice among both specialist audiences within the sector and wider industry and non‑technical audiences, including members of the public. As part of the Business Support Team, you will help turn research and specialist knowledge into published accessible advice, guidance and reports using a variety of media. You will assist in developing more effective ways of communicating with technical and non-technical audiences, through social media, web content, newsletters, blogs and events.

Actively manage the Department’s programme of advice and guidance, ensure effective programming and the timely production of material, provide regular reports to the National Specialist Services Department Business Manager and Team Leaders.

Please note the role will involve travel to meetings in London, Fort Cumberland (near Portsmouth) and other locations within the UK which may involve overnight stays.

  • Highly self-motivated and happy to work independently

We are an equal opportunity employer which values diversity and inclusion. If you have a disability or neurodiversity, we would be happy to discuss reasonable adjustments to the job with you. Having just won the Gold Award from MIND, we also recognise the importance of a healthy work-life balance.

We are an inclusive employer and believe that flexible working options are for everyone. We want to make sure our working arrangements don’t prevent anyone from joining us because of their personal circumstances. We also want to provide you with the best balance in your home and work life that we can.

We are open to considering options including job sharing, part-time working, compressed hours working and different working locations, including hybrid working. Please visit our jobs pages or contact us to find out more.
