ABOUT THE TEAM
The Philanthropy Team at UNICEF UK sits within the Partnerships & Philanthropy Directorate. It has built a significant track record of raising income from major philanthropists and High Net-Worth Individuals based in the UK.
Our strategy is built around soliciting support from high value supporters to fund unrestricted resources, pre-identified priority global programmes and income to support children in emergencies throughout the year. In addition to this, the team also offers philanthropists the opportunity to focus their giving on projects and programmes which align to their personal giving interests and strategies.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Philanthropy Manager will join a team of high-performing fundraisers who maximise income and support for UNICEF through stewarding existing relationships and building new high value relationships with individuals.
Your role will be to develop a strong knowledge of UNICEF’s work and build positive relationships with philanthropy prospects in order to effectively solicit multi-year gifts.
You will manage your own portfolio of donors and will identify supporters in the current pipeline capable of uplifting their support and bring in new supporters to significantly grow our major donor pipeline.
What we will expect you to achieve
Proactively develop strategic, face to face relationships with new and existing high value supporters, including next generational philanthropists, delivering excellent stewardship and cultivation and asking at the right time for multi-year financial support.
Work to develop creative and relevant supporter journeys with a view to retaining and growing the number of people supporting UNICEF UK, establishing appropriate donor recognition and stewardship activities.
Work with the Prospect Research team to implement a robust prospecting plan, growing a caseload of potential supporters, taking initiative and driving forward outreach to engage new philanthropists with UNICEF’s work.
Recruit senior volunteers to identify potential donors, open new networks of supporters and ensure the most effective approaches are made to secure funds.
Feed into a strategy that embeds fundraising for sudden onset and protracted emergencies within the wider Philanthropy team.
Working with the Strategic Writing Team, delivering bespoke proposals and presentations to communicate the UNICEF case for support to high level prospects, donors, young philanthropists, and other external stakeholders.
Invite and host donors to appropriate high-level events. Co-create bespoke events for donors ranging from large receptions to seminars, discussions and intimate dinners.
Support the Philanthropy team by:
Contributing to the annual planning and reporting process
In conjunction with Philanthropy Senior Leadership Team, support in the development of annual team operational programme and strategic plans.
Monitoring, evaluating, and reporting against income targets and risk on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
Proactively grow your understanding and knowledge of UNICEF’s complex work around the world so that you can be an informed source for supporters.
Ensure that all donor records are accurate and up to date and that all information relating to donors and prospects is produced and stored in line with data protection regulations and best practice.

Experience of securing significant donations from individuals or family foundations and managing relationships with major supporters

Superb interpersonal skills, and comfortable making direct contact with individual donors to discuss interest and commitment. Experience of working with senior colleagues and volunteers to achieve success.
Ability to work with programme experts and other fundraising teams to design bespoke fundraising proposals
Specific knowledge and skills
Knowledge of the current philanthropy and High Net Worth Individual landscape and insight into future trends and how charities are catering to this landscape
Different forms of philanthropic motivations, giving mechanisms and fundraising strategies, particularly from a younger philanthropic audience
Knowledge of Excel and budgeting
Use of Sales Force or similar CRM software
