Job Description
Summary
We are the public body that looks after England’s historic environment. We champion historic places, helping people understand, value and care for them.
Historic England is seeking a Grants Manager to join the Grants Team.
This role can be based out of any of our nine offices - Newcastle, York, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Swindon, Portsmouth, Cambridge or London, inclusive with hybrid working.
Historic England grants are a vital tool in our delivery of our Corporate Plan and our purpose to improve people’s lives by championing and protecting the historic environment. The team bring together the management of our Commissions and Capacity Building and Heritage at Risk related and other grant streams. The Grants Manager will lead for the Grants Team on the Grants Review and UGS work.
Historic England is currently part way through a Grants Review and development of a Unified Grants System (UGS). The aim of the Grants Review is to make our grants more impactful, friendly, and flexible, and ensure our funding is awarded where it is needed to create the most impact and public value. We also want to make our processes more user friendly for staff and the communities they work with.
The review will have far reaching implications for the organisation and transform the way some teams work. It will determine the grants we give, who we give them to and how we work with the applicants before, during and after the application.
Part of our process improvement work involves looking at the administration and management of grants, to ensure processes are streamlined and continue to be fair, accessible, and transparent. This includes the development of a UGS creating a ‘one best way’ approach and solution for how Historic England handles, manages and distributes grants.
National salary range:
£39,364 - £41,000 pro-rata
Greater London + salary range:
£42,380 pro-rata
Inner London salary range:
£43,818 - £45,000 pro-rata
What you will be doing
The Grants Manager is a key role to our organisation and you will be a member of the Grants Team senior management and participate in and contribute to the overall management and development of the Grants Team.
We need you to lead for the Grants Team, but collaborate with colleagues, on the development and roll-out of, and training for, a Unified Grants System (UGS), and the development and delivery of an implementation plan for the next phase of the Grants Review, particularly the amendment of business processes.
What we are looking for?
Experience and understanding of Historic England Grant schemes/systems and a proven track record of grants management and business processes
Understanding of project and programme management
Excellent prioritisation skills, with strong attention to detail.
Some understanding of systems development
Some experience of training development and delivery
