Job Description
This is an opportunity to work on some of the most important and fast-moving issues in insurance and financial regulation.
As Policy Adviser, Prudential Regulation, you will support the ABI’s work on prudential policy, helping to shape industry positions on issues including insurance stress testing, recovery and resolution, and operational and cyber resilience. You will work with member firms, regulators and colleagues across the ABI on live policy questions that matter for the resilience, competitiveness and innovation of the UK insurance sector.
You will have the opportunity to work on live regulatory issues with real-world impact, engage with senior stakeholders across industry and government, and develop expertise in a technically demanding and strategically important area of financial policy. You will be supported by experienced colleagues, while having the scope to take ownership of your work, contribute your ideas and grow quickly.
We are looking for someone who is highly analytical, curious and comfortable working through complex problems, including issues that involve technical and quantitative evidence. You do not need to be a prudential regulation expert from day one. This role would suit someone with strong intellectual ability, sound judgement and a proactive mindset, who enjoys learning quickly, solving problems and working with others to get things done.

What’s the job?
Develop and communicate persuasive policy positions, supported by robust evidence, that promote the interests of insurers and long-term savings providers in relation to insurance stress testing, recovery and resolution, operational and cyber resilience, and related policy areas as the agenda evolves.
Lead and contribute to policy development work with members, including providing proactive and efficient support to working groups/committees and seeking technical input from across the industry.
Monitor regulatory and policy developments and help coordinate timely, high-quality ABI responses to consultations, discussion papers and supervisory initiatives.
Actively develop and maintain working relationships with the Prudential Regulation Authority, HM Treasury and other stakeholders, supported by senior colleagues where appropriate.
Work closely with member firms to gather technical input, understand implementation challenges and reflect industry perspectives accurately and credibly.
Provide support to team-wide processes and projects, including the Team’s regular publications, such as Newsletter and briefing materials, co-ordinating the Team’s regular Committee and member meetings and providing secretariat to the relevant ABI committees where necessary.
Contribute to the activities of the wider ABI Regulation Directorate, ABI staff and ABI Member Groups, to reach industry wide views on key issues.
What skills do you need?
Excellent analytical and research skills, with the ability to get to grips quickly with complex issues.
The ability to speak and write in an articulate manner, supported by convincing evidence, on complex issue.
Ability to manage a number of complex work areas simultaneously and independently.
Good team working and interpersonal skills and a commitment to working proactively with colleagues and members to get results.
The ability to gain credibility with those at senior levels within the financial services industry, government or elsewhere.
The ability to work with members to understand their priorities and concerns, gather evidence from them, and develop robust and credible policy positions.
Lobbying skills, including the ability to influence and persuade senior people in member firms, Government, regulators and elsewhere, and to argue persuasively for the industry’s interests.
