Job Description
Summary
We are the public body that looks after England’s historic environment. We champion historic places, helping people understand, value and care for them.
We are seeking a Historic Environment Records (HER) Officer to join the Greater London Archaeological Advisory Service Team to support the management of change by providing access to information relating to the historic environment of the capital city.
The team maintains and develops the London Historic Environment Record in line with national standards and benchmarks, ensuring that it contributes to the effective use of the planning system at strategic and local levels, and provides advice to owners and others on the sustainable management of the historic environment.
What you will be doing
As part of this team, the Historic Environment Record Officer will assist the HER Manager by continuously maintaining and developing the Historic Environment Record for London, through our new online Arches for HERs system, in accordance with the London HER Forward Plan, and national legislation and guidelines. They will contribute to promoting and ensuring accessibility to the London Historic Environment Record to foster awareness and promote good stewardship of the historic environment of the capital, including replying to enquiries for searches of the record and assisting with the management of volunteers.
What we are looking for
1. Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject or significant experience in a relevant field
2. Experience of working with Historic Environment Records including problem solving within a historic environment context
3. Developed ICT skills in databases and GIS systems, including ability to accurately input and check computer data
4. Able to clearly, accessibly, and rapidly synthesise information relating to the historic environment
5. Understanding the role, regulation, and future development of Historic Environment Record Services
6. Ability to manage competing work priorities
