Job Description
The Senior Internal Communications & Engagement Business Partner plays a critical role in supporting both the development of an inclusive, collaborative culture and also an informed and engaged workforce. Reporting directly to the Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer, they will work closely with Senior Leadership, particularly in the Strategy, Marketing and People & Culture teams, as well as key project leaders. We will be looking to them to develop a best-practice approach to internal communications, building confidence and competence in the cascade of information across all levels of the organisation. They will be responsible for ensuring a regular agenda of impactful organisational communications whilst also playing a critical role in overseeing the organisation and running of the Employee Engagement Survey and respective action plans. Finally, this role will be responsible for reviewing our internal ways of working, implementing relevant tools and channels, and supporting the facilitation of relationship building, knowledge sharing, collaboration and innovation across the organisation.
Core Responsibilities:
Strategy Implementation
Develop and implement an internal communication and engagement strategy that supports the development of an inclusive, collaborative culture and an engaged workforce that is well-informed about the PRI’s direction of travel and strategy implementation.
Business Partnering
Partner with the Executive Team (ET) members, Directors (known as Leaders) and key team stakeholders to understand key organisational activities, projects and business plans and provide advice on sharing key cross-organisational messaging, supporting in the creation of communications plans and timelines to ensure impactful communications.
Partner with the Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer, wider ET and Directors to develop a best-practice approach to internal leadership communication, e.g. proactively communicating in a manner that is timely, transparent, open, and authentic and that inspires confidence and trust. This involves:
Providing insights and advice as to best approach, messaging and channels to communicate
Supporting the ET in increasing their visibility across the organisation and developing events and approaches that provide more direct opportunities for engagement with colleagues
Organisational Communications
Develop, implement (or enhance) and lead on internal communications events and processes including town halls, employee briefing sessions and weekly all-hands (Monday Morning) meetings to enable the ET, Directors and key team stakeholders to communicate the PRI’s strategic goals and other relevant information in a way that enables trust, transparency and engagement across the organisation.
Develop internal communication principles that ensure a cascade of consistent messaging.
Identify and manage appropriate digital channels and platforms, as well as a calendar of communication touchpoints, to ensure the right people receive organisational information in an impactful way.
Identify opportunities for Knowledge Sharing Sessions and support in the planning and smooth delivery of these.
Enhancing our Ways of Working
Drive employee engagement to support relationship building, knowledge sharing, collaboration and innovation amongst colleagues, as well as partnering with internal employee groups and project teams to ensure information on work and activities is widely cascaded.
Act as a culture champion for internal communications, building confidence around transparency and consistency of internal communications at all levels of the organisation.
Help drive positive behaviours among our globally dispersed workforce that build a sense of belonging at the PRI.
Culture and Engagement Projects
Oversee the organisation and running of our Employee Engagement Surveys, analysing data and providing insights to the ET and People & Culture teams.
Facilitate relevant engagement survey listening sessions and work with the ET and People & Culture teams to develop and implement Engagement Survey Action Plans.
Work on wider People Team projects to ensure maximum engagement.
Provide coaching and mentoring to more junior members of the People Team, as well as sharing technical knowledge and expertise where appropriate with the wider People Team.
Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement
Gather and analyse feedback on communications through formal and informal channels, and analyse campaign and channel metrics.
Person Specification
Excellent written communication and verbal presentation skills
A collaborative and consultative approach to working with others & committed to fostering an inclusive environment
A bias for action – a ‘doer’ who demonstrates an entrepreneurial mindset in gathering information, proactively setting the internal communications agenda and thinking of new ways to engage colleagues
Excellent networking, relationship management and interpersonal skills with demonstrable experience of building strong and productive relationships at a senior level
Demonstrate experience handling sensitive information
Experience using digital tools to ensure impactful and targeted communications. Also, a good understanding of, and interest in, digital tools that can be used to facilitate relationship building, knowledge sharing, collaboration and innovation across a global organisation
Experience of running surveys, analysing data, drawing conclusions and making recommendations to others or amending/improving own ways of working
Experience presenting to groups and facilitating meetings
Strong project management skills, with experience in delivering projects successfully, including directing others that may not be your direct reports/managing upwards, working collaboratively and demonstrating flexibility and resilience
