Job Description

We are looking for an experienced project manager with a policy / engagement background to lead a major public engagement project on the ethics of assisted dying.  You will have excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, as well as being an enthusiastic and organised team player.  

About the project

The Project Manager will be responsible for leading all aspects of our work on assisted dying including: setting a clear project plan, mapping the policy and research environment, commissioning a Citizen's Jury, and overseeing stakeholder engagement and external communications, in partnership with external affairs colleagues.    

The aims of project are to: 

  • Deliver robust and credible evidence of public views about assisted dying 

  • Commission a series of authoritative and accessible opinion pieces on the full range of ethical views on assisted dying, 

  • Engage government, media and policy makers (including professional bodies) on the findings of the public engagement. 

Outputs are to include:  

  • Synthesis of research and analysis of ethical issues associated with assisted dying in order to inform the public engagement process, 

  • Findings from the public engagement, 

  • A commissioned series of opinion pieces from Council members and wider experts detailing the range of ethical perspectives on assisted dying. 

You will take a collaborative and inclusive approach and ensure representatives from all sides of the debate are fairly represented in the deliberations and oversight of the work.  Is expected that the public engagement will be commissioned to a third party, who will work closely with the Project Manager to deliver a robust and balanced report on public views on the ethics of assisted dying.   

About you

We are looking for an experienced project manager with a mix of experience across public engagement, policy and research. You will be an exceptional stakeholder manager, able to engage with a spectrum of people with varying views on assisted dying. You will be confident working with high-level academics and policy makers an experienced in reporting to boards.  

You will have the skills and gravitas to work autonomously and lead this high-profile work as well as enjoying working in a team environment. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong research skills. We are seeking someone who can think creatively about communicating complex and ethical issues to a broad range of audiences.
