Job Description
The Holocaust Educational Trust is a registered charity working with schools, colleges and communities across the country to raise awareness about the Holocaust and its relevance today. For over 30 years, we have led innovative and meaningful learning experiences – teaching young people about the Holocaust and ensuring that our educational initiatives have a long term and positive impact on the individuals we reach. Our Trust team is made up of hard working, energetic people who are passionate about our mission to educate every person from every background in the UK about the Holocaust and its contemporary relevance. We believe that the Holocaust must have a permanent place in our nation’s collective memory. We work across the UK, providing a wide range of educational programmes.
We are looking for a self-assured and passionate Fundraising & Events Officer to help implement the Trust’s fundraising strategy. The role operates within a small and creative fundraising team, with the opportunity for input and innovation. This varied and challenging position involves working on different aspects of fundraising and event coordination.
The postholder will work closely with senior managers and senior volunteers and is an excellent opportunity for an organised and dedicated individual to play a key role to help the team grow our non-statutory income (over £1.5 million annually).
The successful candidate will have these skills/qualities:
· Excellent attention to detail
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Relationship building skills
· Highly organised with the ability to prioritise workload effectively
· Good IT skills and a high-level working knowledge of Word and Excel
· Knowledge of the Third Sector
In your first 6 months, you’ll:
· Help coordinate and organise the annual Appeal Dinner
· Compile the Appeal Dinner brochure and secure income from corporate advertisers and individuals for this brochure
· Build effective and appropriate internal and external relationships including donors, table hosts and committee members
· Ensure Trust/Grant applications and reports are submitted on time
· Write creative reports for existing supporters to show the impact of their donations
· Liaise with companies to arrange corporate events with Holocaust survivor speakers
· Develop relationships with existing and new companies to increase income in this area
· Oversee and work with the Regional Ambassador fundraising committee to assist them with their fundraising initiatives
· Help prepare information for the Fundraising Committee meetings and build relationships with the committee members
· Ensure the database is kept up to date and maintained
· Help prepare fundraising reports and assist with managing event budgets
· Lead on administration of donations and fundraising administration
After 6 months in post, we'd expect you to:
· To assist in the organisation all fundraising events throughout the year (in-person and virtual). Ensuring events are meticulously planned and delivered.
· Assist and work with the Young HET committee to motivate them to fundraise for the Trust
· Develop ideas for new events
· Identify opportunities for new Foundations & Trusts to apply to
· As part of a small team, to contribute to other areas of our work as required
· Actively implement new strategies or improve data entry and database upkeep
Like the rest of the Holocaust Educational Trust team, you will also benefit from:
Flexible working – staff have the flexibility to work their contracted hours around the core hours of 10am – 4pm and are able to make flexible working requests that will be assessed on a case by case basis.
Annual leave - 22 days annual leave each year plus bank holidays. This increases by one day after 2 years continuous service and is capped at 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
Office Closure days - The office will be closed on the Jewish High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippor when they fall on a weekday. It will also be closed from Christmas Day, up to and including New Years Day.
