Job Description
Summary
We are the public body that looks after England’s historic environment. We champion historic places, helping people understand, value and care for them.
We are seeking an Inclusive Heritage Officer to join the Inclusion Team.
As our Inclusion and Diversity Officer you will aid the Inclusion Team with delivering Historic England’s strategic aims for Inclusion, Diversity and Equality.
National salary range:
£30,155 - £30,800 pro-rata
Greater London + salary range:
£33,356 - £34,500 pro-rata
Inner London salary range:
£34,969 - £36,000 pro-rata
What you will be doing:
You will be working with external partners and with colleagues across Historic England, supporting the delivery of well-planned, high-quality projects which aid the organisation’s strategic objectives. This will include supporting and advising colleagues in Historic England on how to develop inclusive ways of working. Supporting the Inclusion Team to broaden the diversity of the heritage sector, including through the creation of resources and delivery of training.
Working with colleagues across the organisation, you will aid them to diversify audiences, aligned with Historic England’s strategic objectives.
You will stay up to date with current legislation, initiatives, trends and innovations which help Historic England to become a more inclusive organisation with more diverse audiences.
Who we are looking for:
Experience of successfully delivering engagement or inclusion programmes and activities, in a heritage context.
Experience of working with a wide range of audiences with protected characteristics or from lower socio-economic groups
Knowledge of the different barriers to cultural and heritage participation, and knowledge of strategies for overcoming them
Excellent communication skills, capable of motivating and enthusing colleagues and audiences
The ability to advocate for inclusive ways of working and to persuade colleagues of the value of this
Passion: ability to explain why inclusion matters and inspire others to take action
