Job Description
About the Project
Tremap is a Cornwall based software company, that uses space assets (earth observation, GPS, remote sensing) to solve environmental problems in urban forestry and green space management.
We are currently introducing Tremap GreenSpaces to the UK market - one of Europe's most innovative, most widely used management platforms for green infrastructure. On the continent, it's used by a broad spectrum of local authorities, tree care companies, environmental organisations - any entity that needs to manage and maintain green infrastructure. We're excited to be bringing this highly innovative solution to the UK.
We want GreenSpaces to be best-in-class on the UK market, and that also means excelling in the areas of support , client onboarding and training. And so, we're looking for enthusiastic team members to help us build a technical support group - persons who can help our clients with initial setup of the platform, spatial data import, software configuration and training. A short-term internship with Tremap will give you some initial experience in this very practical setting and may lead to a long term role within our team, helping to develop our technical support services.
Aside from support and client onboarding, we are also busy adapting Tremap GreenSpaces to the UK environment. For example, we're exploring integration of various remote sensing data layers into the platform - UK wide canopy cover maps, UKhabitat classification and biodiversity condition analysis for areas that are managed in our software, tree equity mapping and tree-specific datasets such as the HMLR's new Tree Preservation Order database and the Woodland Trust Ancient Tree Inventory.
That means that the successful candidate will also potentially help in exploring how best to integrate the various remote sensing and earth observation technologies that exist on the UK market, to add value for our clients within the GreenSpaces platform. We have several exciting development projects in the wings, and this internship could definitely lead to a satisfying role in product development.
Overall, this position is a unique chance to work with space technology in a very practical, down-to-earth setting! It will give the candidate the opportunity to gain experience in the commercial realities of how we use space assets in business and how we harness this technology to help protect our environment.
Candidates could expect to spend their time:
analyzing client workflows in using GIS tools to manage their green infrastructure;
configuring GIS systems and datasets
ground-truthing remote sensing datasets in green areas;
helping to train and onboard clients in GreenSpaces
mapping green infrastructure in GreenSpaces
assessing the correlation between Machine Learning generated datasets and real landscape features.
Our clients range from local and county councils to green infrastructure maintenance entities to environmental organisations, mostly located in SW England.

Who We're Looking For
Candidates with a background or study focus in any of these areas will have an advantage:
earth observation
remote sensing
GIS and mapping software
data analysis
arboriculture and/or environment focussed disciplines
Should you feel that you aren't yet particularly well equipped with knowledge in these fields, rest assured that the more important quality to us is your ability and eagerness to learn, and capacity to work with others as they also assimilate new technology and solutions.
Also, this job description set outs the skills and experience we believe are helpful to be able to do this job but, research also tells us women are much more likely than men to take this list of requirements as absolute and self-select out of the process. If you think you can deliver this role and potentially grow into a long term team player, then we want to hear from you, regardless of the boxes you didn’t tick.
While you'll be working with Tremap personnel some of the time, you'll be spending much of your time with our clients, on-site, at their locations. So, we're looking for candidates with good interpersonal skills, individuals who are good listeners and who have a healthy work ethic and sense of commitment to both tasks and people. You will be the face of our company during your placement, and so your communication skills and professionalism are as important as your passion for the technical subject area.
Minimum requirements
You must be a registered student in the UK
You must have permission to work in the UK
A driver's license and use of a car (to be able to access client sites)
Reasonable IT skills

Approximately one week of remote training with Tremap tech personnel at the beginning of the internship to gain the needed skillset in GreenSpaces (and possibly a brief introduction into arboricultural practices). Thereafter, 7 weeks of deployment with one of our new clients.
Flexible work hours, but maximum of 33 hours per week engagement
Work is hybrid - part remote work with the Tremap team and our clients, part on-site work at our clients' locations.
