Job Description

About us

At Founders Pledge, our mission is to empower entrepreneurs to do immense good. Since launching in 2015, we’ve raised over $10 billion for the most impactful social causes. We offer the simplest path to impact for successful entrepreneurs, providing end-to-end giving infrastructure, pioneering research, and access to a worldwide network of experts. In other words, we help tech leaders become strategic philanthropists. Our 1700+ members include the people behind industry-leading companies such as Airbnb, UiPath, Dropbox, Skype, Spotify, and Uber.

About the role

We’re now looking for a Climate Communications Manager to join us, on an 18-month FTC (which we hope to extend), to drive donations to our highly-impactful Climate Change Fund. With experience in journalism/Think Tank or non-profit comms, you’ll be an integral part of our Climate Research team, building, leading and implementing our strategic communications plan. Ultimately, you’ll be responsible for amplifying our cutting-edge climate research, boosting the reputation of Founders Pledge Climate and of our research more broadly.

Find out more about our Climate Change Fund and our Approach to Charity.

You’ll be our in-house Climate comms expert and will ensure that our brand is both associated with high-quality research and that we’re positioned as thought leaders in the climate space. In this varied role, you’ll be flexing your writing abilities, turning our quantitative research into digestible comms, and building relationships with the media and other thought leaders.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Working with our Climate Research team to roll-out strategic communications to engage both our members and non-members alike. You’ll think about where we can talk about our climate research, who we should be talking to, how we should be saying it, and ensure your ideas fit with our wider FP comms strategy.

  • Writing compelling content for those channels you’ve identified as being the most relevant and impactful (which might be complementary to our current comms channels - email, LinkedIn, Twitter, our website and our member-facing app). You’ll turn our research into web content and blogs, social media posts, supporting materials for senior stakeholders attending events, etc. You’ll rewrite our research reports or sections of research reports for wider consumption.

  • Media outreach. You’ll pitch specific publications to the media. This could be traditional news media, but also podcast hosts, influential bloggers, and academics.

  • Collaborating with our Comms team to ensure our Climate communications outputs complement the broader Founders Pledge comms strategy and align with our brand.

  • Evaluating the impact of your communications to guide future efforts. You’ll review which channels have been the most impactful and which content has encouraged donors to take action.

  • Building a social media presence for both Founders Pledge and members of the Climate team.

  • Responding to questions and comments on our publications, for example on the Effective Altruism Forum and via email.

Salary: £40k - £60k/€40k - €60k/$60k - $80k DOE

Location: US, Europe, UK (remote/hybrid)

About you

You’ll have demonstrable experience in journalism, Think Tank and/or non-profit comms. You’ll also have experience  editing and condensing raw research outputs/quantitative information into publicly accessible formats. These are both essential requirements.

In addition to this, we’re looking for:

  • Experience with PR and/or building relationships with the media.

  • Experience building and implementing a forward-thinking communications strategy - with a focus on reaching diverse audience

  • A strong passion for creating engaging, tailored content, on a variety of media, including digital platforms, to influence and further enhance our reputation. You’ll have the opportunity to flex your strong writing skills.

  • A keen interest in climate change and ability to effectively communicate across a variety of channels.

  • Experience managing social media platforms.

  • Familiarity with Effective Altruism.

  • A basic understanding of relevant research methodologies.

  • An in-depth knowledge of climate change discourse and policy. You can get a sense of our focus from this recent podcast (nice to have).

  • Science literacy, the ability to understand and synthesize scientific publications (nice to have)

Why work with us?

You can find more about the benefits we offer here, but what makes us truly special is both our mission and our people. We’re a diverse team, from both charitable and commercial backgrounds, who believe that amazing things can happen when we tackle problems together. We offer a flat structure and an opportunity to help shape the future of philanthropy.

We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at Founders Pledge. We seek people with different strengths, experiences and backgrounds, who share our drive to understand and solve complex social challenges. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

Finding solutions to the world’s most pressing problems requires different perspectives and unique ways of thinking and we are committed to building an inclusive and diverse workplace where everyone can do their best work.

Please note: When you apply to this role, you’ll be asked to complete an equal opportunities form. As this role is being advertised in multiple countries, you’ll be asked to complete a UK equal opportunities form, as this is where our HQ is based.
