Job Description
Purpose
The Regional Development Manager has lead responsibility and ownership for their geographic region. They will work across a wide portfolio to grow Swim, Bike, Run and Triathlon in their region as well as contribute to our national strategies; including our Development Strategy for England; The BIG Active. The seven work strands below set out the main areas of the portfolio:
Driving the work in our Priority Places to embed Swim, Bike and Run into the way in which communities are physically active, working with and through local ecosystems and key stakeholders and partners therein.
Activating and enabling delivery of our main three development programmes within and across the region; Swim, Bike, Run, Active Skills for Life and Beyond Swim.
Overseeing the support, development and offer to the affiliated club network.
Overseeing the support to the coach and workforce education work strand at regional level
Working with and through the Regional Committee to drive the growth and development of Swim, Bike, Run and Triathlon across the region.
Support the growth of permitted events within and across the region through developing and maintaining relationships with a range of event organisers and deliverers.
Supporting the safeguarding and compliance work strand at regional level.
Key Tasks
Develop and maintain an annual Regional Plan (April – March), ensuring connectivity to the national strategy and its annual objectives and targets.
Provide quarterly quantitative and qualitative updates on performance against the Regional Plan and against other metrics as required across the Development Directorate.
Provide ongoing qualitative reflections and learning as part of the wider performance management and learning approach of the Development Directorate.
Contributing to a range of internal working groups at national level to steer the strategic direction and operations of the team.
Lead both strategic and operational relationships and partnerships across the region and beyond, particularly with our deliverers, Local Authorities, Active Partnerships, Community Organisations and many others.
Provide line management, leadership and direction to a Club Development Officer resource which works within the region, specifically overseeing their work in two of the seven work strands listed above.
Maintain a working knowledge of the operation of the sport across the region…being the ‘eyes and ears of the region’.
Support the growth of British Triathlon/Triathlon England membership.
Work to support the team’s targets around equality and diversity across the sport at local level and beyond.
Where appropriate, provide line management, mentorship and support to activators or apprentices or others employed within the region.
Work as a key member of the regional manager team as well as the wider Development Directorate.
Provide outstanding service to relevant internal and external customers.
Communicate effectively including use of social media channels, in accordance with BTF protocols.

Relationships
The Regional Development Manager will report into one of the Heads of Department within the Development Directorate. Whilst functional line management sits with a single Head of Department, support, mentorship and work plan management will come from the wider leadership team within the Development Directorate. The successful candidate will be an integral and valued member of both the Regional Team and the wider Development Team and is likely to thrive through developing and maintaining close working relationships with members of these teams and well as members of other teams and directorates across British Triathlon.

Essential
Strong planning skills, thoroughly organised and able to prioritise and action work across a broad portfolio.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Capable of building strong and effective relationships and partnerships, both at strategic and operational levels.
Must be computer literate, including use of Office products, Outlook, Word Excel, and PowerPoint.
Strong written, oral presentation skills with the ability to lead meetings.
Ability to work with volunteers.
Good understanding and working knowledge of the sport and physical activity landscape (particularly at local/regional levels) including local, regional and national sport and physical activity strategies, campaigns and programmes.
Experience of generating, developing and delivering multi-agency projects within communities at local level.
Desirable
Experience of providing line management, leadership and support to others.
Experience of working within sport and physical activity
Good working knowledge of the sports and physical activities of swim, bike, run and triathlon
Previous experience of delivering place-based / asset-based community development initiatives.
Previous experience of bid writing and relevant ways of obtaining funding and investment for community sport initiatives
Qualifications
Relevant Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in Sport Development - Desirable
Evidence of continued professional development and application of learning - Essential
