Job Description
Due to a high volume of applications, this role will now close on Tuesday 4th July at 23:59 UK time.
The Company
Usborne is an independent, family business, creating books which spark curiosity in children of all ages. These range from books for babies such as the bestselling That’s not my… series, to YA fiction from acclaimed authors such as Holly Bourne and Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé – with everything from Magic Painting to Politics for Beginners in between.
Whilst Usborne is now a market-leader in children’s publishing and one of the best-known brands in children’s books, the company retains a friendly, family feel. If you want to work somewhere close-knit enough for people to know your name, but which has a first-class reputation around the world, Usborne is the place for you.
The Team
Reporting into the Head of Rights, the Junior Rights Assistant role forms part of our Rights team which sits within our Foreign Language Operations.
The Rights team is responsible for selling translation rights to foreign markets spanning across Europe, South America and Asia. To date, the Rights team has sold translation rights in 137 languages and dialects worldwide, embodying Usborne’s philosophy of making books for everyone!
The Role
We are looking for a proactive, motivated and highly organised individual with excellent administrative and communication skills to join our busy Rights team.
This exciting opportunity will involve supporting the Rights team in managing a wide range of administrative and operational activities including:
Drafting letters, contracts and schedules.
Ensuring printing costs and schedules remain up to date on our excel database, working closely with our Production department.
Preparing sales invoices and managing payments.
Assisting in the preparations for and attending the Book Fairs in Bologna, Frankfurt and London, including scheduling of appointments and gathering of presentation materials.
Departmental support in managing the sales material process and organising the delivery of the departmental PowerPoint presentation showcasing our upcoming books.
Managing the distribution of incoming proofs and advance book copies.
Dealing with all requests relating to granting permission for use of our content where Usborne owns copyright.
Experience
This is an entry level role and whilst we are not looking for specific publishing experience, a passion for children’s publishing and books is a must.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
A good working knowledge of Office 365.
Excellent communications skills and ability to communicate confidently both in writing and verbally with a wide range of individuals including our foreign publishers, customers, and internal staff.
A meticulous eye for detail ensuring accuracy and attention to detail when working on a wide variety of projects.
The ability to juggle multiple tasks, manage priorities and manage time well.
Proficiency in a foreign language would be advantageous but is not required.
Location and Benefits:
We offer a 35-hour working week from our offices in Farringdon, London. After a short initial induction period, we offer a hybrid working model of 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home which we feel optimises our opportunities for collaboration and contact with our colleagues.
In addition to our transparent salary grading structure, for this role we also offer a range of benefits which include:
25 days paid holiday entitlement increasing with service to 30 days after 5 years;
Industry-leading Pension Scheme and Life Assurance;
