motivated, innovative, and collaborative Regional Director to join our London and South East Region.

The Regional Director is the senior representative of Historic England across London and the South East of England and a powerful and public advocate for Historic England, the historic environment and the positive part heritage plays in society. They lead Historic England staff based in the region to improve lives by championing and protecting the historic environment.

What you will be doing

As Regional Director you will be a public advocate for Historic England and for heritage, building effective relationships with key regional influencers across central, regional, and local government and the private, voluntary and community sectors to ensure that the historic environment plays a full role in sustainable growth in London and the South East.

You will lead the effective delivery of Historic England’s engagement, advice, grants, research and programmes across London and the South East in line with Historic England’s strategy, policies and guidance and our KPIs and income targets.

You will be responsible for developing and leading a high-performing regional team which includes a broad range of specialisms and expertise.  You will ensure the effective management of staff and resources, ensuring legal obligations and the expectations set out in our policies are met.

You will lead an effective approach to evaluation to help ensure that our work in the London and South East Region achieves and demonstrates maximum impact. You will inspire innovation and look at ways to do things differently, constantly evolving to result in best practice.

You will play a key role in the development of Historic England strategies, policies and projects in the regional team.  As part of our Regions Leadership Team, you will also help to further develop the strategic direction for the organisation and play a key role in strategic resource planning across Historic England.

Our key areas of focus include levelling up, climate change, the continued invigoration of our High Streets and how heritage can support sustainable growth.  It will be the role of the Regional Director to create and develop the thinking that can drive forward these important agendas across London and the South East.

What we are looking for

·       Experience of influencing and collaborating with a wide range of partners.

·       Experience of creating and leading multi-disciplinary teams.

·       Experience of initiating and leading projects within a strategic framework. 

·       Broad knowledge of the history and historic environment of England.

·       Excellent written and spoken communication skills capable of spanning range of audiences including media.

·       Strategic thinking and creative problem-solving skills.

·       Commercial acumen.
