Job Description

Overview

Usborne is an independent, family business, creating books which spark curiosity in children of all ages. These range from books for babies such as the bestselling That’s not my… series of touchy-feely books, to YA fiction from acclaimed authors such as Holly Bourne and Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé – with everything from Magic Painting to Politics for Beginners in between. Whilst the company is now a market-leader in children’s publishing and one of the best-known brands in children’s books, the company retains a friendly and familial feel. If you want to work somewhere close-knit enough for people to know your name, but which has a first-class reputation around the world, Usborne is the place for you.

The Role

We’re looking for someone who has a great understanding of the UK school sector who is motivated and excited about the opportunity to market Usborne’s books and services to teachers and librarians globally.

 Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for content creation and marketing to schools and libraries for Usborne Publishing and Usborne Community Partners across UK and the rest of the world

  • Identify key titles for school/library markets, working closely with UK and Export Marketing teams

  • Create teacher resources such as discussion guides, activity packs and lesson plans to be used in connection with Usborne books

  • Creating schools and nurseries email newsletters for UK and global audiences

  • Create blog posts for teachers/librarians to promote Usborne books and services such as book fairs and school author events

  • Manage schools pages on Usborne.com to drive leads for Independent Usborne Partners

  • Create content for ads and social media (in collaboration with our Global Content Creator and Video Producer)

  • Reach out to and expand our list of education partners and influencers, in collaboration with Marketing/PR teams

  • Work with Marketing/PR team to promote author events in schools

  • Shape an annual calendar of communication, based on knowledge of UK school calendar

  • Update schools brochures as needed

  • Create magazine print ads promoting UCP school events

  • Create resources for Independent Usborne Partners to help them drive sales

  • Report on schools marketing activity and UCP school sales

Experience

You might have a background as a primary or early secondary school teacher with experience blogging/ creating content for other teachers, or perhaps a marketer with deep experience in the education sector. You’ll have broad knowledge of the UK education calendar, primary school curriculum and be interested in learning more about how education works in other countries. However, whatever the relevant experience, you will need to have excellent content creation skills and a passion for children’s books.

Strong writing skills to create blog posts, and punchy marketing emails are essential as well as the confidence and communication skills to reach out to develop relationships partners right across the sector. Any experience of creating simple video content such as Instagram Reels or YouTube videos would be a great plus.

You'll need to be good collaborator and well organised, in order to work across a diverse group of teams internally, as the role will engage with and support primarily the Usborne Community Partners (Usborne’s direct selling organization) and the Global Digital team (manage digital channels globally) but will also work closely with the UK and Export teams to identify key titles and create content for UK and global school/library markets.

Location and Benefits

We offer a 35-hour working week from our offices (whether you are based in our London or Oxford offices) where after a successful induction period we offer a hybrid working model of 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home.

In addition to our transparent salary grading structure, for this role we also offer a range of benefits including:

  • 25 days paid holiday entitlement plus bank holidays

  • Healthcare Scheme for you and your dependents

  • Comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme

  • 50% Discount on Company Books

  • Industry leading Pension Scheme and Life Assurance

We particularly encourage applications from Black and minority ethnic candidates who are currently under-represented within this area.
