The role

PUBLIC is seeking a Programme Manager to work on a learning programme that teaches military personnel about innovation within startups, governments, corporates and academia. Fellowship participants (i) are seconded into a leading GovTech startup; (ii) participate in an MBA focussed course focussed on intrapreneurship and entrepreneurship; (iii) develop their own military specific innovation ideas and (iv) are supported by leading mentors and performance coaches. 

Working alongside a wider Programme team, the Programme Manager will be the key figure representing PUBLIC to the customer and other external stakeholders during the programme, whilst maintaining strategic oversight of programme operations. The Programme Manager will also work closely with Fellowship participants, programme mentors, coaches, lecturers, speakers, and startups. PUBLIC is a dynamic company, pioneering approaches in a new and fast-growing sector. As such, in addition to working on learning programmes, you will also work across new business opportunities and other programmes.

As Learning Programme Manager, your main responsibilities will include: 

  • Developing the Fellowship curriculum and sourcing programme faculty

  • Building and maintaining relationships with participants, startups, mentors and lecturers

  • Overseeing programme operations, including programme lectures, roundtables and other events  

  • Reporting to the customer on progress achieved by the programme 

  • Line managing a Programme Associates and supporting their development

Person Specification

What you will bring to PUBLIC

  • Past experience in managing projects or events to a high level organisation and presentation

  • Strong organisation skills and a detail-oriented approach

  • Excitement to be working closely with startups and public sector personnel 

  • A high level of resourcefulness and determination 

  • Enthusiasm for working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrable interest in politics and/or new technologies

  • Strong communication skills

  • The ability to manage relationships with senior stakeholders

  • The ability to manage and develop junior staff

  • The ability to take initiative and improve systems & processes


Desirable skills

  • Experience of working in, or with startups or SMEs

  • Strong written and verbal communication

  • Pre-existing knowledge of the defence system

  • Pre-existing relationships within the military

What you don’t need 

  • A traditional educational background

Selection Process

To be selected for the role, candidates will have to complete:

  • A series of written questions, which will be blind reviewed

  • A competency based interview testing the potential fit for the role in the week of August 23rd

  • A short task outside of the interview. No prior knowledge will be required to be successful at this task. 

  • A culture based interview - testing the potential cultural value-add within PUBLIC.
