Job Description

About Giant Leap

Giant Leap is Australia’s first venture capital fund that is 100% dedicated to investing in impact startups – rapidly scalable businesses that blend financial returns with real and measurable social and environmental benefits. We invest across the following themes: sustainable living, empowering people and health and wellbeing.

About you and the role

We're looking for someone to be a core part of our team, bringing a fresh perspective and thinking with both an impact and commercial lens. Investment experience is not essential - what is essential is that you are committed to continuous improvement and enthusiastic to support startups helping to create a better future for all.

We encourage female candidates to apply even if you feel that you don’t have all of the requisite skills and experience we are looking for.

What you will do

  • Support the team in evaluating potential investments with a focus on impact and growth potential, including undertaking financial analysis. (We can teach you how to do this).

  • Meet with founders and attend events in the startup community to find exciting investment opportunities.

  • Coordinate meetings and communicate with founders in the process of making investments.

  • Prepare investment papers and other information the team needs to make good decisions during meetings.

  • Prepare updates for our investors and other reporting required by the fund.

  • Support our portfolio companies with ad hoc projects and community building activities.

Key skills & attributes

  • Critical thinker: You’re comfortable solving complex problems. You are adept at deploying numerical and logical thinking skills and draw on research and the expertise of those around you to tackle the many deep questions you have.

  • Growth mindset and adaptability:  You believe you’ll always be learning and are constantly building from where you are today, adapting quickly as you go. You're excited to deep dive and get up to speed on a range of topics, find experts to learn from, relevant courses you're excited about and can develop a point of view fast.

  • Purpose driven: You are driven by creating positive social and environmental impact to create a better future for everyone.

  • Team player: You take initiative and manage your own priorities effectively. You know the right time to loop in members of the team and no job is too small. Like all of us at Giant Leap, you're happy to roll up your sleeves and do the task at hand.

  • Ownership mentality: You think like a business owner. You take responsibility for your work and are committed to achieving the best outcomes for the organisation and our portfolio companies.

  • Excellent communicator: You can articulate your ideas across spoken, written and visual mediums with the right mix of information and critical analysis. We want to hear your opinion!

Working at Giant Leap

  • This role is full-time with flexible hours.

  • We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, or marital, veteran, or disability status. We are using Applied to ensure every applicant gets an equal chance of success.

  • We are remote first and encourage working remotely and flexible hours to accommodate the other things that contribute to your full life.

  • We believe in everyone in our team acting like owners so we have a policy in place around staff ownership and carry.

Other benefits

  • Learning and development: We are on a constant learning journey and you will receive an annual learning and development budget to help you with this.

  • Attractive parental leave policy.

  • Days off for impact: Is there a protest you want to attend, a beach clean up or a charity marathon you want to run? We offer additional days off for impact activities that do not draw on your annual leave.

Giant Leap Values

  • Act with radical candour – Care personally and challenge directly. We value self-awareness and acknowledge we don’t know all the answers. We trust others to highlight opportunities and blind spots that we can’t see.

  • Think with an abundance mindset – We seek to be generous and without expectation or ego when giving to others. We believe that a rising tide will lift all boats. We value collaboration and seek to grow the pie.

  • Lead by example – We exist to demonstrate the power of startups to solve the world’s problems to guide us to a cleaner, healthier, happier future. We act with courage, integrity and kindness to challenge the status quo.

  • Play the long game – We are strategic in our decision-making and think about the consequences of our actions and inactions. We respect the past, present and future.

  • Be human – We value human connection and seek joy in life. We understand the importance of relationships and acknowledge we are only one piece of the puzzle. Without others, there is no self.
