Job Description
Project Description:
URA is transitioning from small company, working solely on R&D to an SME who is commercialising our products. We are due to have thrusters fly on a spacecraft for the first time in 2024.
This role is to support testing in our test facility for a number of products, to ensure they will work as anticipated in the space environment.
Led by an experienced test engineer, you will support in both a hands-on practical way (maintaining the facility, adjusting gas lines, installing the items for testing etc.) as well as working alongside the team to ensure health and safety protocols are followed and anomalous results identified quickly.
During the internship you will learn or gain experience with the following:
• Experience with Vacuum chambers and the test environment.
• Experience analysing test results.
• Experience with “front-line” work with significant responsibilities in a space industry SME at the forefront of space technology developments in the UK.
• Knowledge of EN9100 and ISO9001 certification, potentially being involved in an audit (depending on the timing of the start of the placement) • Improve interpersonal and team-working skills with a young, multicultural, multi-skilled and passionate team. • Improve problem solving skills in short timescales.
• Knowledge of different space systems: Spaceflight, space propulsion: thrusters, electronics, fluidics, diagnostics, space mechanisms, exploration and interplanetary missions, etc.
• Knowledge of the end to end processes of designing and developing propulsion systems for flight.
• Knowledge of the complexity of the systems, sub-systems and components that go into making a functional spacecraft
Applicant Specification / Minimum requirements:
- Experience with vacuum chambers and hands on testing.
- Analytical skills to interpret results
- Good communication skills
- Right to work in the UK.
Process details:
8 weeks minimum fixed term contract to be agreed with successful candidate. We are happy to consider longer contracts.
In-person Induction Event to be held on 24th June 2024, and an in-person/hybrid Showcase Event to be held TBD
2 days holiday per month to be taken during the placement
