Job Description
THE COMPANY
We're a highly capable team of engineers and data scientists, working together to transform the way the hospitality industry sets prices. Our product is based on cutting-edge data science and machine learning.
We work in small, cross-functional teams. Engineers work closely with product managers and customers, internal and external, to figure out the best "what" we can build, before we build it. We value small increments, rapid iteration and continuous delivery.
We believe that investing in developer experience is investing in user experience, because it enables us to build a better product faster.
We're a remote-first company with clusters of people in London and Prague, and others elsewhere in Europe. We get together once a quarter for an in-person retreat.
THE ROLE
As a backend engineer, you'll use your engineering skills to enable your cross-functional team develop and further its mission. Ask us in the interview about our current teams and their missions!
We value good software architecture and high quality codebases. As well as enabling your team, you'll be responsible for furthering the technical roadmap, collaborating with backend engineers from other teams.
Engineers at Pace have a lot of autonomy. Alongside your peers, you will decide what to build and how to build it. You'll deploy it and look after it in production too.
Our backend language of choice is Python and our stack is a combination of Python microservices, Kubernetes and many cloud-native tools.
BENEFITS
Benchmarked, market-tracking salary
Generous options package
A company of kind people who care about each other
Unlimited holiday policy and very flexible working arrangements
Fun quarterly offsite (after all, we work in hospitality!) and ad-hoc face-to-face meetings as needed
Generous and forward-thinking approach to learning and development
An opportunity to make a big impact in a well-funded, growing, industry-transforming B2B SaaS company
ABOUT YOU
A person who’s likely to succeed and thrive in this role will recognize themselves in some of the following areas. Don’t worry if you don’t catch them all, this is not a game of Pokemon!
You love writing software that makes a difference, understanding the problem that needs solving, and delivering value to internal users.
You have an aptitude for and a love of Python, and a knack for building simple, elegant and pragmatic solutions to gnarly problems. You have used cloud-native tools before and are comfortable building prototypes and proof-of-concepts.
You want to succeed as a team. You enjoy working in a cross-functional team, and understand that everyone from developers and data scientists all the way to customer success play an equally important role in a company.
You take ownership of your work, from the design, to the code, to its security and operation. You feel empowered by a team that relies on you to solve problems with your unique skillset.
OUR HIRING PROCESS
You'll notice that our hiring process is a bit different. When you create an application here in Applied, you'll be asked some questions directly related to the work you'll be doing in the job.
Why do we do this?
We want to build a diverse team, in the fairest way possible. We're also a small team and are busy building our product.
Qualifying candidates based on a CV is fast, but ineffective and unfair. We think it's better to assess people on their real-world skills. The questions shouldn't take you any longer than it would to write a cover letter, and they're a better predictor of who would succeed in the role.
You may have been asked to complete this application by a recruiter, or already have spoken to someone from Pace. If that's the case, please consider these questions part of your interview process.
If you're applying from a job board, advert, or some other way, we'll use the answers to these questions to decide whether or not to reach out for an interview.
The rest of the process looks like this:
A phone call with the hiring manager or our CTO, for us to learn a bit more about each other
A short take-home test
A technical interview where we go over your take-home solution
An interview with the product manager of the team you'd join
A final chat with one of our founders, to get to know our values even more and make sure Pace is the place for you
