Job Description

Location: Flexible with preference for North America or Europe. This is a global role working primarily with team-members based in North America and Europe, and increasingly with team-members based in East Asia.  Candidates must be authorized to work in the location they plan to work from. The Sunrise Project will not sponsor applicants for employment visas.

Remuneration:
Informed by experience (including unpaid and other experiences) and capacity to take on responsibility. Salary range is based  on location. E.g. US range is $105,000 - $115,000 USD, UK: £60,000 - £70,000; Europe: €70,000 - € 80,000. We provide excellent benefits, which are tailored to each country in which we work.

About The Role

This is a new, senior role to support our Investor Program Director to manage the rapid scaling of our Investor Program. 

Our Program’s overall goal is for mainstream investors to actively coordinate and wield their power with companies and governments to align their portfolios and the global energy sector with 1.5 degrees by 2030.

You will bring high level coordination and support to our team of 22 staff, who primarily work  across North America, Europe and East Asia.

You’ll be responsible for nurturing a vibrant, creative, and supportive culture across our Investor team, for leading our program’s campaign planning and  evaluation process and coordinating our program’s granting to more than 50 partner organizations in 12 countries.  

You’ll be engaging closely with a wide variety of people from business and NGO leaders, to philanthropists and analysts, and our close knit staff team. You’ll need a penchant for clear, direct communication, an unflappable nature, and the ability to read people and group dynamics.

We support networks of organizations to work together to achieve outcomes that would not be possible by individual organizations acting alone. We expect all roles at Sunrise to actively support the capacity building of these networks and partner organizations. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Investor Program Director to proactively nurture a creative, dynamic and supportive culture across our Investor program that encourages open communication and unleashes the potential of all of our people;

  • Leading on high performance, collaborative and sustainable team environment by fostering Sunrise’s culture and hiring, managing and developing talented individuals;

  • Support a team of senior campaign staff to develop and implement high impact strategies that result in strong investor climate action;

  • Manage overall planning and granting processes for the Investor program;

  • Line manager of 3-4 senior team members;

  • Ensure open and honest evaluation of our work and impact, and foster a culture that recognises the importance of failure and learning in our pursuit of greater impact;

  • Ensure the Sunrise Project lives by its values and embodies justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in the way we operate;

  • Work closely with our Investor Program Director to to organize with our philanthropic partners to secure and align resources.


Required skills and experience    

  • At least 7 years’ experience in a similar or related role including unpaid, grassroots or lived experience;

  • Demonstrated experience in people, performance, and culture leadership, with management experience including hiring, nurturing and enabling talented and diverse people.

  • A high level of emotional intelligence with excellent interpersonal communication and group facilitation skills;

  • Experience working internationally, successfully managing across cultures, and a track record of creating inclusive work cultures;

  • A deep understanding of how social movements achieve change including both elite engagement and outside pressure strategies;

  • A passion for action on climate change and a commitment to social justice;

Desirable Skills and Experience   

  • An understanding of the global financial system

  • Relationships and understanding of the global finance climate movement;
