Job Description
Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an Architect Surveyor to join our passionate team in the East of England.
Are you looking for a role with a purpose? Are you passionate about built heritage? Do you have experience in the East of England? Do you understand how historic buildings work and how their fabric can be maintained? Are you good at varying your communication depending on who you are talking with? Are you ready to move on from leading projects to supporting and advising people facing some of the most difficult repair projects? If so then this could be the role for you.
This role offers a variety of flexible working options to enable you to fulfill your career aspirations whilst balancing your personal life, for example, we are open to the post holder doing a job-share, or compressed hours, flexible start and finish times, hybrid home working and other flexible arrangements to allow you to do accommodate lifestyle factors such as the school run, caring for relatives or other commitments.
As our architect or surveyor, you will be the first port of call for architecture or surveying advice in the region. Supported by our renowned Conservation Team and structural engineers, your advice will be primarily focussed on our grants, heritage at risk, and development advice functions.
· You will take repair projects from initial advice, through grant assessment, to delivery on site – problem solving as you go.
· You will assess sites that are potentially at risk and provide advice on their future management and conservation.
· You will provide technical advice to our development advice colleagues on the appropriateness of technical solutions to buildings and monuments that require various types of planning consent.
This is a Full-time 36 hours a week post.
Who are we looking for:
· You must have a professional qualification in architecture or building surveying.
You either must be conservation accredited through RICS, AABC, or RIBA at SCA level OR have the relevant experience to apply for that accreditation (and we will support you with time and money to do so).
You will need proven experience in projects aiming to repair historic buildings, you will be familiar with all periods of English secular and ecclesiastical architecture and have an excellent grasps of current conservation practice.
You should be able to demonstrate experience in the vernacular architecture and building materials of the East of England or experience in transferable vernacular architecture and building materials.
Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to adapt communication styles to a variety of circumstances.
Ability to coordinate and prioritise own workload and to work to tight deadlines
Please note that the role requires regular travel to sites not serviced by public transport. The role may require visiting/inspecting sites which is likely to require climbing scaffolding and negotiating confined space (e.g. Church roofs etc). The role will require occasional attendance at community meetings which are usually held at evenings or weekends.
We are an equal opportunity employer which values diversity and inclusion. If you have a disability or neurodiversity, we would be happy to discuss reasonable adjustments to the job with you. Having just won the Gold Award from MIND, we also recognise the importance of a healthy work-life balance.
We are an inclusive employer and believe that flexible working options are for everyone. We want to make sure our working arrangements don’t prevent anyone from joining us because of their personal circumstances. We also want to provide you with the best balance in your home and work life that we can.
As mentioned above, we are open to considering options including job sharing, part-time working, compressed hours working and different working locations, including hybrid working. Please visit our jobs pages or contact us to find out more.
