Remuneration and Expenses
Terms and Conditions:
Remuneration: GBP 1,000 per country
The contractor shall be responsible for payment of relevant local taxes, social security and any mandatory insurances or pension contributions.
Location: To be based in either Kenya, Nigeria, Sierra Leone or Tanzania.
Applicants must have the right to live and work in the country they will be carrying out the work and will be asked to provide evidence.
Expenses, such as in-country travel, honoraria for interviewees, as necessary. To be agreed in advance.
Ashden will not pay for air travel for this work.

About the project
Ashden would like to contract consultants to investigate and report on the views of the Ashden Awards in Sub-Saharan African. This means organisations working in one of the following areas:
Universal energy access.
Humanitarian energy access.
Livelihood-based nature protection.
We want to hear from up to 15 stakeholders in each of the following countries:
Kenya.
Nigeria.
Sierra Leone.
Tanzania.
Scope
Objectives
Provide insights into:
How we can best reach strong award applicants in the sector.
What would make the awards accessible to strong applicants.
What would make the application and judging process credible and transparent.
The most valuable kinds of support Ashden could provide to winners through the awards and our programmes.
Timeline
Quotes for the work to be received by Sunday 16 February 2025.
Contracts to be issued by Wednesday 19 February.
Kick-off meeting with Ashden to be held on Thursday 20 February.
Interviews, analysis and report to be completed by Wednesday 19 March 2025.

Work and deliverables
Review documents to be provided by Ashden: more information about the awards, our questions for the stakeholders, previous applicants and winners.
Identify stakeholders / sources from Ashden’s existing contacts or your own, through desk research or iteratively from recommendations made by other stakeholders.
Set up and conduct interviews face to face or remotely, as appropriate:
1–3 interviews with national trade and umbrella bodies, NGOs.
10–12 interviews with prospective applicants, applicants and winners.
Draft and finalise report, including:
Summary of people / organisations interviewed, anonymised where appropriate.
Summary of themes and findings from the interviews, illustrated with quotes.
Skills and experience required
Knowledge and experience in the sector(s) you are quoting for.
In country contacts for the countries you are quoting for.
Interviewing and communication skills.
Interview analysis and report writing skills.
