Job Description

About us

Aquila is a fast-growing startup developing dynamic, wireless optical energy networking to power sectors under-served by traditional grid infrastructure.

We're backed by some of the best investors in the world (Blackbird, Possible, and Icehouse) and are working with fantastic partners to develop novel and exciting capabilities.

We believe in the power of teamwork and collaboration. We are a dynamic and supportive team, sharing a passion for pushing the boundaries of what is possible. We're looking for exceptional people driven to power the future by solving first-class problems with world-class engineering. Everyone owns their work end-to-end, and we’re all working on new stuff here.

At Aquila, we believe in shaping the role around the candidate and the team. As such, if there's a domain you do not fit into, please do not hesitate to apply anyway!

The role

As an RF Electronics Engineer at Aquila, you will own the full design and development of high-performance and reliable radio solutions to enable high data rate transfer over long distances, empowering our core wireless energy transfer. You will take these systems from initial requirements to mature, scalable systems that can meet all required emissions regulations for the regions we operate in.

You will be the first point of contact for expertise on designing for EMI/EMC and will advocate for best-practice PCB design within the electronics team.

Furthermore, you will be involved with technical mentorship and leadership for interns and junior engineers and advocate for the full electronics team, helping us grow and develop our capabilities as we scale.

Who we're looking for

Aquila seeks a highly skilled electronics engineer with experience building high-performance RF systems in any relevant field. Successful candidates will:

  • Own the full end-to-end PCB design process, which includes collecting requirements, component selection, schematic design, layout design, board bring-up, validation, and full integration with the system.

  • Bring strong fundamentals in RF and analog electronics design, as well as best practices for design for signal integrity, power integrity, and EMC.

  • Conduct rapid hands-on development, quickly de-risking designs and validating concepts before taking them through to low-volume production

  • Drive forward the performance and reliability of our radio communication systems.

  • Develop and execute component and subsystem design validation plans and test methods to validate product adherence with certification requirements (particularly for EMC).

  • Build up internal team understanding and knowledge in design for signal integrity/power integrity

  • Mentor and support engineers within the electronics team

  • Represent the electronics team in company-level cross-disciplinary discussions to define system architecture and product strategy

  • Roll up your sleeves and help with whatever is required in a dynamic startup environment.

We love candidates with the following aptitudes. Still, you don't need to meet them all — if you have a strong work ethic and a voracious hunger to solve first-class problems through developing world-class technology, we want you on our team.

  • Proven ability to build high-performance radio systems

  • Strong experience with industry-standard electronics CAD tools (Altium or KiCad preferred)

  • Strong experience with industry-standard electronics simulation tools

  • Familiarity with common MCU, CPU, FPGA devices and technologies

  • Familiarity with common communication standards, CAN, I2C, SPI, USB, Ethernet, etc.

  • Experience developing HITL automated testing systems

  • Basic familiarity with a high-level scripting language (Python, MATLAB, Go, etc.)

  • Basic familiarity with embedded C/C++ and modern development tools

Above all else, we hire candidates who deeply connect with

And are aligned with
