Job Title: Data and Portfolio Manager

Location: London, EC4A (currently remote working)

Accountable to: Data and Portfolio Director

Salary Band: £47,000 - £58,000

Overall Purpose of the Role

Working closely with the Data and Portfolio Director, you will ensure that Big Society Capital manages data and systems effectively in order to produce accurate, timely, and strategic management information. The data will be used both internally with the team, for board reporting and externally on our website. In an emerging market this data will be a crucial driver of Big Society Capital and our partners’ learning, decision-making and strategic planning.

Statement of Responsibility

Fluid responding to business needs but will include:

Data: Market & Portfolio

  • Assisting the Data and Portfolio Director to meet BSC’s data requirements, including establishing priorities, planning systems and process changes and efficiently implementing these changes

  • Managing the annual Market Sizing estimate process & deal level data release.

  • Expanding the volume and improving the quality of data on social investment activity and performance

  • Ensuring that information and data stored on Salesforce and other management information systems is up-to-date and accurate

  • Using Tableau to present data clearly – allowing users to have insight into Social Investment

  • Developing the methods used to collect and understand social impact data by working with the Impact team

  • Creation of reports and presentations that are engaging, user-friendly, insightful, incorporating best practices in data visualisation and storytelling

  • Working collaboratively with Investor Engagement, Finance, Legal, Communications, Impact, Operations groups on cross functional projects and initiatives

  • Co-leading training for sector peers on data standards and use at Big Society Capital

Salesforce Management

  • We use Salesforce as our single-source-truth for Investment data.

  • Maintaining & developing the back-end architecture of Salesforce

  • Offering immediate helpdesk support to staff

  • Designing data integration and optimization solutions for portfolio management, investor & investee relations with the support of third-party consultants

  • Ensuring Salesforce is meeting the needs of each part of organisation: Investment, Finance, Legal, Impact, and Engagement

 

Portfolio Management Support

  • Helping to maintain the portfolio management flywheel & and embedding processes across the Investment group

  • Working with the Data and Portfolio Director on the preparation of the quarterly board and portfolio performance dashboards

  • Supporting the Investment group with portfolio management requirements, including impact & financial performance, risk analysis, monitoring milestones, forecasting and liquidity

  • Setting up process and systems to share learnings across the portfolio

  • Managing investment data from pipeline through tto Exit, including the whole investment life cycle

 Person Profile

Essential Experience

  • A background relevant to Big Society Capital objectives (such as government, social enterprise, finance, or investment)

  • A passion for and demonstrable commitment to Big Society Capital’s social mission and the UK social sector

  • Experience and confidence in using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

  • Experience in data management

Desirable Experience

  • Experience and confidence in using Salesforce & Tableau

  • Proven project management skills
